I woke up as light started to stream through the closed shades in my sleeper cabin. I got up and opened the shades to see if I could see the sun rise, however, I was on the wrong side of th train for that. I went and took a shower and got presentable. The bus was there to pick me up at the Desert Palms Resort at about 7:45 am. A word about the MacDonell Ranges. The MacDonnel Ranges are a series of mountains run 400 km through the midsection of Australia. 100 Km run south-east from Alice Spring and 100 km run North West from Alice Springs. It was 6:15 am when I boarded the bus for the day trip to Uluru. One of the things I read in a travel guide before I left warned that Uluru is NOT near Alice Spring. However, the folks who own the resorts near Uluru own ALL the resorts near Uluru, so it is hard to get a good price on accommodations there. We arrived at Alice Springs to a hot 31 degrees. After a quick change at the airport we caught a taxi to the Desert Palms Resort, our motel style accommodation at the edge of Alice Springs city centre.
