An early start again, up and ready for the longest journey of the trip, crossing all the way to Playa del Carmen in Mexico! After catching the boat back to the mainland and actually having to put a jumper on because the wind was so cold with the oncoming storms, we arrived ready but not willing to take a few chicken buses to the border. However we were delighted to hear that our guide somehow managed to organise a cheap private bus for us instead of the chicken ...

The road across the peninsula is very un -Mexican, a dual carraigeway straight as an arrow with no speed bumps (but with some vicious toll charges) so we were at the airport in good time and on to our resort in Playa del Carmen for two nights. A huge golf course surrounded by houses and hotels, ponds crawling with waterfowl and terrapins. Quite attractive.
... and full of joy. On the main plaza you could eat and drink all kinds of stuff. We had a really delicious hamburguesa for only 20 Pesos. It was a great night but also said because we knew that it was the last night of the Fredos! It was also Valentines Day.

It is nothing short of spectacular and beautiful. It is this underground river system deep below the forest floor which supplies the thousands of Cenotes with water.
