... in the early 17th century and then renovated from 1980 after lying neglected for many years. It was Baroque in its interiors and sat on water with beautiful gardens and a maze. Really worth seeing. Back on the ship there was a cheese and sausage tasting to struggle through. That night I collapsed, exhausted. It's hard work being a ...

... an awkward breakfast with the Belgians and a failed attempt to pay for the room with our non-European VISA. Note to anyone planning a trip to the EU: GET A CHIP AND PIN VISA OR MASTERCARD (not AmEx)! It will save you TONS of headaches in every store, gas station, tollbooth, and hotel/restaurant. We had a few hours of driving to Colmar in the Alsace region, and that’s where our next post will continue. Thanks for reading this ridiculously long one! ...

... having checked out of our B&B we met up with our second cruise group who were on excursion in Beaune, very conveniently for us. Breakfast in our private courtyard, shaded by the vines and fig tree. Not bad. Fresh croissants, coffee and quiche lardon from the boulangerie nearby. Wandered around Beaune, visited some of the wine cellars an tasted some good wine. Splashed out on a bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin 2011, beautiful. At lunch we found a restaurant that was well rated on trip advisor, Les Grilladines. The food was supposed to be very good, but the staff surly. ...

... Excellent Japanese food in countryside France, a million miles from Tokyo. We didn't eat the sushi but the Tonkatsu and the maki were excellent. We might head back tomorrow. On the other hand the Thai food we had for dinner at Lotus (I think its called that, it was so bad, I've already tried to push the name out of my memory) opposite the Casino supermarket was bad. Not going back there.

Tomorrow, we will wander into the countryside.

    Ollie out.
