... inside. The construction was designed so that a beam of sunlight would shine into the chamber and onto the remains on the winter solstice.
After the tour, we drove to the coast and went to a beach of the Irish Sea. The beach was very wide--the water was many yards out. The tide must come in over a great distance, because the sand was seeping water and had remnants of a lot of sea life. There was an ...

While looking at my guidebook, I noticed that there is a pub called McHugh’s in Drogheda, and I asked John to take me there so I could get a picture. McHugh was my great-great-grandfather’s name, and it meant a lot just to see it. The pub didn’t seem to be in the best of neighborhoods, so we didn’t go in after John took the picture.
Back at the b&b, we had tea and cookies in our ...
... at the Knowth site. After our wonderful meal, we ordered coffee, and John automatically asked for cream. When our coffee arrived, he picked up the cream pitcher, and cream was indeed in it. We had to spoon it out of the pitcher! Had he not said anything, we would have received a pitcher of milk, which is the usual here. I’m sure they all wondered about the crazy Yanks after we left.
A long day deserves a good night’s sleep, and that’s what I hope we’ll get!
A quick trip along the coast before returning to the hotel.
A nice little coastline.
I did get caught in a police roadblock. Luckily, I have a UK license. Made it a breeze to get through without many questions. Curious to find out what they were looking for.

Newtown Monasterboice, County Louth, Ireland nahury1Newgrange was built around 3200 BC and is older than the Great Pyramid in Egypt. It also is aligned with the winter solstice so the sun lights up the tomb. There are decorated stones around the perimeter and inside the tomb.
The internal chamber is roughly 20 feet tall.
... Garry had the kindness to drive us around the Mourne and Colley mountain. The landscape was just breathtaking. The next day we where wondering around the Ravensdale forest, to take advantage of mister Sun. Im actually at Kate's place in Dundalk on the menu tomorrow: NewGrange http://www.knowth.com/newgrange.htm to be continued... Val x
Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland kabochenook... if I remember right). The castle has been restored over the past 15 years or so, a project that is still on-going. All I can say is this, the folks that live there had one heckuva a backyard (about 50 acres) - not a bad spot for a par 3 course in my mind! Kilkenny itself was a classic looking town, with small streets and stores stacked next to each other downtown, all with a spectrum of colors painting the area. The remainder of the day was spent travelling ...
Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland jrcade... were taken for the evening. I was beginning to get the same feeling that I got when trying to get a room in Cardiff. It turns out that, much like Cardiff, all the rooms in town were taken because of a function (in this case, a wedding). However, the "B&B Grapevine" existed here just as it did in Wales. We ended up being referred to a B&B in Bettystown, a small village just southeast of Drogheda. This place had a room, which we immediately booked.
With our ...
