The room was spacious and warm. We had a great view of the street below. The huge bath was a real treat.

... would we do without it) I discovered a cable ski lift not far from the train station that went up to Pila ski fields. When we got off the train it was easy to find, so we joined the line of people carrying skis, sleds and dressed in snow gear, not many people wearing jeans like us! Got our tickets which was only €12.00 (I had read €60.00) and hopped into a cable car that went for miles, it took 20 minutes to get up the mountain, the ride was fun on its own. Liam was ...

Driving in the luxury of the Benz into Charmonix for lunch
and then through the Mont Blanc 11.6km tunnel into Italy is fantastic and we take the road
leading up and over the St Bernard Pass. it's the highest mountain road pass in Europe 2300 meters. Lucas has put that
car through its paces on the twisting turning switchback roads and scared the

... Glacier trail, a long roundabout descent of 400 odd metres to Schwarzsee where I can catch the gondola lift back down. The scenery up here was very dramatic, but quite different from the Jungfrau region. The rich, green soft forests, meadows, etc. of Wengen and Grindelwald were nowhere to be seen. I walked for nearly four hours and it was like a moonscape; apart from when I passed glacial snow or a stream on a couple of occasions, ...

No notes, just that Refugio Berthone was at the top of a huge climb out of Courmayer. stopped for ice cream in town &a look around. Deb had convinced us we were staying in a hotel in town, so much disappointment . Earlier in the day we'd lunched in a ski village above Courmayer. Left Elizabetha lodge & walked along the Lac de Combal. Then straight up ...

Oops, no notes again! Refuge Elena quite new and modern. Large dorms but partitioned into bunks of 4. Located on a high ridge overlooking the valley, where we had a long break and arvo tea. Met some interesting groups of Italians, see the funny hats. It seems that all of Italy has these 2 weeks off, so the trails and refuges are full. Dinner in a lovely dining room, food pasta as usual. ...
