I had planned to catch the 12.30 boat back to Parapat and then decided to aim for an hour later, giving time for a dip in the lake and quick kayak. I missed the 1.30 and was going to get the 2.30 but decided to stay for lunch. Lunch took a while coming and I wasn't sure I would catch the 3.30. Giving myself indigestion and a stitch rushing down to the jetty, I made it just before 3.30. The boat ...

We left Medan at about 10am, maybe a little earlier. We crossed the other side of the road to catch a local bus. I forget which number but the hotel can tell you. It didn't take long to the connecting bus to Berestagi. This seemed to be the party bus, and the driver must have left late because he was flying past everyone from any side. Plenty of terrible techno / bleepy **** got blasted at us but it didn't stop the other three guys on the back ...

So before we headed to Bali we found out that on the day we arrived was Hindu religious ceremony that happens once a year called Nyeapi day. Which is a day off silence. No one is allowed out of their hotels, police patrol the streets. We thought our friends were joking so we googled it, and yes it was true! It would only happen to us, haha. We just sat laughing! I messaged Michael who also just sat and laughed. Luckily we found out before we got there, we decided there ...
