Day 10 Early start due to 9.30 flight and the inconsiderate f..kers in the hotel hallway creating a racket first thing. Went down and persevered the awful hotel breaky, before managing to talk our hotel desk man into a slightly early shuttle bus trip to the airport - only minor victory of our Ciampino stay. Then flew to Berlin with a ridiculously …

... day. Or so we thought.

We headed back to the hotel and noticed a little sign in the hotel bar with two of my favourite words on it. Happy Hour. After a few pre dinner drinks we decided to head into the thick of it for a little dinner. We ate Japanese, as you do in Berlin, and in the process met an English and German couple. They insisted we join them for a nightcap at one of the local bars so we did. It was a Greek themed night, ...

The museum was direct on the River Spree so afterward we rested our feet and enjoyed the weather with a boat ride through the historic heart of Berlin. Gave a different perspective on the buildings and such as viewed from the river.

We hopped on and off the public bus as we winded our way back towards our apartment. Stopped by the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) which was packed with fellow tourists enjoying the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Derag Hotel Grosser Kurfuerst Berlin

    Excellent hotel in Berlin 'Mitte'

    from ROMAAMOR

I just returned from a 4 night's stay at DERAG HOTEL GROOSER KURFUERST and this hotel

is really a fantastic hotel in berlin mitte(Fischerinsel). The hotel is located in a quiet area, but

anyway is very central.(5 min. walk from ALEXANDER PLATZ and FERNSEHTURM-10 min. from UNDER DEN LINDEN and FRIEDRICHSTRASSE).If you arrive with your car the hotel also have a very big and secure garage right beside the hotel for a little fee.

The hotel is almost a DESIGN-HOTEL (but not design-hotel price!!!). It's extremely modern

and very beautiful decorated. The hotel staff is so nice, helpful and very professionel.

The room were very spacoius and modern and extremely clean. The bed is mabye the best

I have tryed in any hotel(KINGSIZE AND EXTREME COMFORT).The bathroom was also very

    spacious,modren and very clean.

The breakfast was beautiful served in a lounge overlooking the hotel lobby. The choise and quality was AMAZING!!!

I really had a good time at DERAG HOTEL GROOSER KURFUERST and next time I be traveling to berlin I will stay here again

    EXCELLENT VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY!!!

    Excellent stay at Grooser Kurfuerst

    from handkg

Excellent peaceful hotel but close to centre. Tube station ( Markisches Museum) literally 1 minute walk away but Cathedral end of Unter dem Linden, the Old Quarter and Museumsinsel all within 5 min walk. Lots of places to eat at Nikolaivertel, 5 mins on foot, also ate in hotel on wet evening- food and service excellent.

    Excellent 4 star hotel

    from anonymous

I stayed at the hotel from 5 to 11/1/2006 and can only confirm the previous reviews. Excellent 4 star hotel, clean and well kept. Friendly staff, perfect breakfast with all kinds of meats, eggs and yoghurts etc. Nice rooms, and spotless bathroom. Perfect location for sightseeing, with a metrostation at 30 mtrs of the entrance/hotel and in walking distance of Nikolaiviertel (with lots of restaurants) and Unter den Linden. We paid 130 euro for a double and got a 4 + 2free arrangement.

    Highly recommended

    from anonymous

I stayed here for a week and found it excellent in every way. It fully deserves its four star rating. Because I was arriving early in the morning direct from New Zealand, I emailed the hotel in advance to ask for an early check-in. They replied immediately and when I got here thay had not only remembered but also gave me a room upgrade.

I booked it through wotif and paid 80 Euro per night - very reasonable indeed for the standard.

Breakfast was included (unusual in Berlin, it seems) and it was magnificent - more than you could possibly want. I had no problem getting a table, though it was busier at the weekend.

There is no music playing in the lobby which was a great bonus. The lobby is impressive, with free coffee and leather couches and a marble floor and a 7-storey atrium.

Rooms and bathrooms spotless - you could eat your dinner off the floor. I dined at the hotel restaurant on the first night - it was fine but there were only 2 other diners there (a Monday night in January) so it lacked a bit of atmosphere.

The area is not the most interesting and there are not many nice cafes nearby. But as a previous reviewer said, it is right by the underground direct to Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten with no changes, and just a few minutes walk from the Nicolaiviertiel and the museum island. it is very conveniently placed and easy to get to any part of the city.

I would recommend this place to anybody and will certainly stay here again if I am in Berlin again.

    Great Hotel, worth every penny

    from popeye3

Stayed at this hotel first week in December. It is a good quality hotel with excellent facilities. Rooms were a good size and had everything you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. Access to the Undergound rail system is, quite literally, right on the doorstep. Good buffet breakfast but it did get very busy on the weekend. Staff were friendly & efficient and spoke good English. The area was a bit quiet at night but with such good Underground rail access you can get anywhere in no time flat. It's only a short walk (10 minutes) to Alexanderplatz where there is nightlife. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to family and friends.

    Great Little Hotel!

    from anonymous

This hotel is a fine example of what a four star hotel should be. It is spotlessly clean, the staff is friendly and very helpful and it is only a few feet from a U-Bahn stop. The rooms are modern and nicely furnished. The bathrooms are spotless with up-to-date fixtures and plenty of space!

Breakfast was a typical German buffet with eggs, cheeses and meats, breads, cereals, yoghurts, etc.

The neighboorhood is mainly residential but you are right next to a branch of the Spree River and only a few blocks from many attractions and restaurants. There are several restaurants within a block of the hotel and museum Island is just out the door and across the bridge (maybe a thirty second walk).

    Excellent!

    from Gordito

I stayed here for a weekend sightseeing trip to Berlin. This hotel is an absolute perfect location--right in the heart of the Mitte district--and there is a U-Bahn station literally right across the street (its called Märkisches Museum). The staff members were very friendly and professional, and went out of their way to make sure my stay was an enjoyable one (also, they all spoke English very well). The free breakfast was very generous and had lots of varieties of breads, meats, cheeses, and eggs. The steam and sauna rooms were very nice as well. The hotel is very clean and well lit, and I felt very secure staying there. I highly recommend this hotel--it certainly deserves its four star rating!

    Good Hotel at Good Price

    from AndrewCarrington

Rooms were large and spacious. Breakfast was excellent, however, had to wait for a table as hotel was quiet busy. Location was good, right next to underground station, and within walking distance of most attractions in the east of the city. Staff were friendly and attentive. Biggest drawback was that hotel restaurant was closed over xmas period.

Good Hotel, Great Public Transport Access

    from TheCrew

I was there in late Sept. '04.

The Hotel is not large but is extremely clean and well managed. The Fruhstuck(breakfast) buffet is excellent.

Best thing is the U-bahn station located no more than 20 meters from the front door, and the view rooms looking out into the Spree River canal over the Fisher Insel.

You can be anywhere you want to go in Berlin in just minutes from this locale, but if walking is your bag you may want to pick one a little closer to Unter den Linden or Friedrichstrasse. I would stay at this Hotel again for either business or pleasure.

Nice Accommodations at the Grosser Kurfurst

    from anonymous

Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Berlin. Stayed at the Grosser Kurfurst which was very nice. Big, comfortable rooms and spacious bathrooms. Good continental breakfast included in the price. A bit out of the way but directly across the street from the Markisches Museum U2 station and a few blocks from Nikolaivirtel. A great value for about 115 euros a night.
