... friendly streets.
When most people think of Nuremberg, they think of the trials. Unfortunately we were unable to visit Courtroom 600 because the trial memorial isn’t going to be finished until 2010, but also because the room is still used for proceedings to this day. Instead, on our first day, we walked through the town’s squares, saw a religious demonstration and debate that was even more ...
... t get to talk to family or friends much so I have no idea what is going on back home.
But it really helps when I get postcards and emails from home. Even small comments on my blog (thank you Mitch) help. I want to take this time to thank those of you who have sent me cards or postcards in the mail, they are making my walls, as well as my smile, so much brighter. Also, thank you to those that send me emails, those always help and put a smile on my face. But enough of this ...
... The New Palace contained a huge rose garden and had a great view of the city. During our free time Jack, Suzanne and I wandered around town admiring the architecture. We stopped at a snack shop where I had a large soft pretzel and Coke for only 1.69 euros. Cheapest purchase I’ve made yet. Usually a Coke costs at least 2 euros ($3).
We were back on ship for a late lunch and passed time watching the countryside slide by and going through locks.
Today, right after breakfast, we crossed the European Continental Divide. We went into a lock that dropped us down 81 ft. At the bottom it was, as our tour guide said, like being a spider in a bathtub with concrete walls rising up just inches from the sides of the ship.
We docked at ...
... was switched to a different platform. I asked how people were supposed to know that and he drew us a picture on a scrap of paper. He said up in the corner of the information board on the platform, there is a information bar and thats where it said it. But this is only in German, yet English is printed everywhere else! Ahhh!!! So we had to spend 2 hours of a gorgeous afternoon standing on a train platform. Luckily, the next train came ...
Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany unbound... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!
Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!
... has to offer. We bought a spatula (scrambled eggs) and some fruits!
So we have had brautwurst and currywurst and everywurst possible in the past few days! We decided to splurge and went to a snazzy Chinese restaurant for supper! This is only worth mentioning because I ate the biggest most delicious eggroll I have ever had ever!
We will be coming back to Nuremberg but for now on to Stuttgart!!!!
... bikes on the road, no joke. my cousin and a couple friends walked me through erlangen at night, a really energetic place at midnight where everyone has visited at least one 'biergarten' and all u hear is laughter ringing thru the streets. i can honestly say there is not much out there thats better than walking hand in hand with ur german sweetheart thru the back alleys of a small but energetic bavarian town where beer flows like water and eating at mcdonalds, which ...
Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany seni27... normally is returning, I’ve gotta find a new place, but I really have grown to love my location and room. It’s tough to find a furnished apartment for cheap in the center of town. Hopefully it works out (and in the meantime he told me I can stay an extra month in his room!)
The rest of the last few weeks aren’t really worth mentioning. Teaching classes, going to work, ripping my pants in my bike chain on the way to work ...
... nicer paneling than the cabinets in my loft. The only downside is that they run so quiet, I suspect it is very easy to sleep through one's stop. But that didn't happen this time, and I found myself in the smallish (pop. 70,000) university town of Erlangen, home of the Bergkirchweih, Germany's second largest beer festival. As an aside, I have to give credit to my friend Liz Yee for suggesting this festival to me; I had not found it ...
