Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany garreta... castle could put any stair master to shame and with far superior scenery too. Could have taken the funicular, but that would have been too easy. As with most hoofing walks, the view paid off. The castle looks out over the Neckar river and the town below. With the trees changing color . . . great place to be.

This was a Dad castle if I've ever seen one. Inside are two giant wine barrels that once held ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany wilwayco... medieval Germany to see castles! umm....change of plans. So after seeing the great cathedral of Speyer this morning (where Martin Luther began his great Protestation), we're heading to Wally World! And we're gonna have so much f**king fun we're going to need f**king surgeons to get the f**king smiles off our faces. (bonus points to whoever knows where that classic quote comes from. Anyway)

cheers all
Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany rush0517... cheated.

We arrived in Heidelberg late this afternoon. Heidelberg is the crown jewel town of southwestern Germany- Mark Twain came here and made it famous for Americans, and German artists of every type have sung its praises. I can't disagree, it's stunning. And cold. And I can also FULLY recommend their Thai food, since I discovered I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than partake in more German strudel, shnitzel, or spatzle, so we had a lovely dinner at a Thai joint in ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany sql_spiceOne of my cousin's best friends, Juliet, happens to live in Heidelberg - our next destination. She invited us to stay as long as we wanted, she probably didn't think we'd stay for almost a week though. We walked from the train station to her place, which is on the US Army Base. Her husband is in Afghanistan, so it is just her and her dog, Zoe (aka Sausage). Juliet made us dinner when we arrived and gave us all the maps ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany unbound... is a special place in town where students used to duel, they used to rub salt in their wounds so that they would get cool scars. Our next stop was the castle which unfortunately meant climbing a big hill. The view from the top over town and getting close up to the runied castle was worth it though. After snapping a few photos we headed back down the hill to the hostel to get our gear. We weren't sure where to catch the bus back to the train station so we ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany travellingjon... the "Karl Theodore Alte Bruke" (old bridge), hence the pics are at a distance. PS I didn't have my tripod with me for ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany jv3117... old and full of character. After exploring the castle I walked back down the hill to an old bridge with some statues on it, then went to the cathedral where someone was playing the organ. I then went for another long walk trying to fill in time until I can check in to the hostel and have been walking ever since because all the interesting things to see are buildings and statues. I didn't think it was very cold earlier this ...
