... and Potatoes and it was fairly expensive for China. It reminds me of that Japanese restaurant we went to for Rhedyn's birthday on Chapel St. The food was tasty, but I guess I can thank myself for that! haha.

Today I changed some money in preparation for the next few days adventures.

EDIT: Appaears that China won't let me upload the Video. So that is disappoiting. Enjoy the pictures.

Singing Willows

... busy there, in particular the bargain bin, where nothing is over 3 RMB (50c). It was so crowded there I couldn't even see what all the fuss was about. I was able to buy 2 600ml Pepsis, a packed of Pretzels, a large bag of Dorritos, Chocolate Milk and some Cadbury Chocolate all for 17RMB ($2.80).

Some large videos seem to not want to upload on here. But I will try it again.

KTV and Scholar's Corner

... last more than two consecutive songs before I needed a rest. The girls one the other hand had no trouble yelling into the microphones for song after song. It was a very enjoyable experience and I wonder why it has never quite caught on with any western countries. We still lack any karoake facilities and the ones that exist, function 1 for the whole restaurant, which is stupid.

Today I went in search of a restaurant that I found on the internet ...

Broken Bridge

Today I walked for a while and ended up at Broken Bridge. The sight itself isn't so spectacular, it really is just a bridge, but is a very popular love story in chinese folklore. The story goes that two lovers met on the bridge but then the girl was banished to a temple so they couldn't see eachother. That isn't really the whole story, but I have forgotten it now. From the sounds of that its not so happy, but I think there is a happy ending.

Got a few more waves and ...

More of Westlake

Hangzhou is still cold but there is a development, there is now little bits of rain here and there, so my waterproof jacket is coming in handy.

Today I walked around the West Lake by myself and took some pictures and videos which you can see if you click on them. There are less people walking around given it is a work day, so mainly just ...

First days of cycling in China

Greetings from Deqing in the South of China. I wish I could remember the name of the hotel right now...or that it were written in English anywhere... but I don't have time to go back to my room and check. My ability to name names of places in China won't be quite as good as in New Zealand and Australia... China is off to a very very interesting start. Yesterday we got up early and boarded the ferry out of Hong Kong to mainland China ...

Moganshan and Winding Down

Hello all, Sorry for the delay. I should start with Moganshan, which, as I've explained before, is a resort type village set in the middle of some mountains that was once the haunt of Chinese celebs. In fact, Mao once took a nap there and his bed is preserved as a museum. Mo and Gan are the names of a wife and husband couple many dynasties ago who lived on the mountain (shan means mountain) where he made swords. Back to the schedule breakdown: we left ECNU at about 8 am on ...

Beginning of the hike

Yesterday, when we went to sleep we thought that we were already lucky to have seen the mountain without too much clouds, but when we woke up, we had a crazy view of the mountains without any clouds. The locals told us that it was since 1 month that they did not see the sun like that. We all had on word : lucky us!!!! Then we start our hiking to the holy mountain: on this one I follow completely my Chinese friends as where they bring me is no in ...

Deqing

... said this village is famous for the longevity of its residents. Indeed, everyone we passed must have been going on 90, except for younger-than-school-age children babysat for parents working in the city. The town square is deserted. I whispered to Dan that it looked just like the movies-except we needed a kung fu fight to complete the picture. We tried to act one out but I always give up pretty easily. On the edge of the square is a small ...
