... and driving on a road where it is not
allowed. At least this one went quick and we got to where we wanted
to stop for the night only to find it had changed hands and they
wanted the equivalent of 100 to park for the night. Needless to say
we did not stop but found a guarded car park where we could stop and
gave the guard 1 which made him very happy.

... the tent. It’s probably about 34 odd degrees which isn’t too bad but it certainly discourages you from doing too much. Thankfully there was still some ice in the esky so a cold beer revived me in time to for our visa session.

We all filled out our Congo visas before paying 10,000N ($100) for the privilege of driving through the Congo for 4 days! This side is expensive for visas!

Once done we started on dinner ...

First things first, are *****ian drivers the worst in Africa? My experiences to date would suggest the answer is 'yes'. Our journey from Ibadan to this, the 'capital' city of *****ia, will be remembered for the breathtaking stupidity of our driver. ... Abuja a bit. Hopefully pick up a sim card. We'll travel to Ilorin on Thursday (9 hours, eek!) and meet our host homes then. It's incredibly hot here - 27 degrees when we stepped off the plane at 4 in the morning! Bola laughed when I told her that English summer was usually low to mid twenties - apparently that's winter here... :p That's all for now - keep checking the blog for more! Love to everyone ...

The border crossing was another experience with the officials trying to find an excuse to find a discrepancy in our paperwork. Especially the yellow fever certificates.
