    After raining all day yesterday, the rain continued through
    the night and into the morning. Our attempt to change the tickets for our trip today into Wonder Lake for tomorrow was unsuccessful, so off in the rain we went. It has been raining for the past two days and the area is showing the effects of the rain.

    Into every life and trip some rain must fall. Well today it was a lot of rain. We were supposed to move into Savage River Campground today, but with the heavy rain and cold temperatures, we decided we would be better off to stay where we had some more modern facilities. The campground where we have spent the last two nights had room for us to stay two more nights.

    Today we boarded a park shuttle bus to travel to the end of the road in Denali National Park. The road goes 92.5 miles into the park to the town of Kantishna. The town was established when there was a mini gold rush during 1905-1906. There was not a lot of gold found and most people did not stay. Two who stayed were Fannie and Joe Quigley.     The drive to Denali from Fairbanks is not a long drive. We hoped to see "The Mountain" along the way but clouds ahead of us prevented us from seeing it on our drive in. The only town of any size between Fairbanks and Denali is Nenana.
