... icebergs on the grey gravel rocky beach & I was in photo heaven. The ice has some truly wonderful patterns deep inside it & some beautiful forms carved by the water - they could have left me there all day! At 5.30 we arrived at Denali train station and were taken by coach to the lodge. It was freezing, but once inside our room with the heater on, we looked out the window at the most amazing site of it snowing on the mountains. We rugged up and took a wander through the resort which is quite spread out. They have lovely gift shops .... I picked out a beautiful Lynx fur coat ...

... me if I'm ready to leave. Picture a cross between the Clampetts and the Grapes of Wrath, and you'll have a good idea. A quick stop at Skinny Dick's Halfway Inn turns into a 1 hour laugh-a-thon, as we are entertained by the owners and staff. It is a perfect introduction into Alaska for the girls.

We continue on to a lunch stop in Nenana, famous for the Nenana Ice Classic, a lottery where people buy tickets and guess when the ice on the river will break up. ...
