... couple of kilometres from here). Exhausted we make our way back down, gelato to power up, ferry back to home and cook up dinner.
Today we are back on the ferry to Como, walk along the foreshore to check out some large villas on the west side - now all owned by the Como Provincial Government, then onto the 'fast boat' and up to Menaggio which is midway north up the lake. The lake is 46km from one end to the other, so I guess we travel 20 ...

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's honestly stunning, the crown jewel of Milan.   The inside however wasn't as nearly good as ...

... staff manning the ticket desk. All this took about 30 minutes, at the end of which he was told not to worry as the ticket is good for 48 hours either side the 8th. Nice to be reassured, as the train to Basel leaves at 723 am, but still an uncomfortable start to our stay in Milan.

We then had to find our way out of the station and to the taxi rank as our hotel is the other side of the city. It was actually quite ...

... s words, it is a monument to stupidity and it is symptomatic of Italy as a whole - things started and not finished, money in the wrong hands, money for favours and no accountability.

I won't go into it all here but there is a sadness to Italy and the pessimism I heard around politics on everything from immigration, economy, corruption, etc is heart breaking. It makes me realise yet again how good we have it in Australia - even things like ...
