Toronto, Canada

Arrived safely in Toronto from Melbourne, via Los Angeles on 9th June. Stayed in Toronto for two days. First day just walked around the City then took a double decker bus back to Delta Chelsea our hotel for the two days. Next day (11th) we took a tour bus down to see the mighty Niagara Falls. Fantastic day out. 27degsC clear and fine all day. Took the famous Maid of the Mist boat trip right up to the two enormous water falls (American and Canadian) Horseshoe falls on the Canadian side was the...

Arrived in Toronto!

Hi All

Finally arrived in Toronto after 3 days on the Train, where we were treated like queens. Food gorg, scenery changing all the time. Sleeping on the train was a bit different though.

Just off to start exploring the city. Will keep you informed.

We are both fairly impressed with this city. It is busy but relaxed at the same time and reminds us of Glasgow/London! We went on a bus tour today and saw all the sights and places of inter...

Niagara Falls

I'd been dreaming of going to Niagara Falls for ages and I finally did in 2006. It was everything I had hoped it would be. There's alot to do in Niagara Falls. We didn't have much time to do alot. I went on the Maid of the Mist boat tour which takes you very close to the thunderous water falls, so close in fact you wet drenched from the spray of the falls. I went on the Skylone Tower for a view from the top and it's beautiful to see the river just dropping. I also went behind the falls which ...

Toronto is a big cosmopolitan city. Museums, culture, restaurants, shows. You name it, they got it. We didn't have much time to sight see but I did enjoy the General Tao chicken in the chinese quarter. The CN Tower that year was still the tallest free standing structure in the world. The see through floor was amazing!

Historical Traveler Reviews of Delta Chelsea Hotel Toronto

It was nice

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was at the Delta Chelsea in July 2003. My boyfriend and I found it to be nice but the eating areas are a bit on the expenisve side. I mean for breakfast for two people it ended up being around $20. I think for scrambled eggs and toast that it is to expensive. But everything else was okay, Our room was clean and not shoddy and the patio we had overlooked a good part of Toronto. Over all it was nice and I will probably go back there again.

Great Hotel 10/10

from A TripAdvisor Member
I posted a review on here November 15, 2002 and as I said then I planned to return to the Detla Chelsea Dec 2002 which I did. Once again the hotel was great as were the staff, rooms were clean and its in a great place. Everything is close to hand Subway, Eaton Centre. After being in Toronto for about a week I was taken ill and as you can image being all that way from home I felt pretty awful. The staff couldnt have been better my boyfriend call the front desk and they called out a doctor. The doctor decided that I should go to the hospital, which again the hotel got me a cab at about 3am. Once admitted my boyfriend called my family to let them know what was going on. The hotel helped all they could right down to talking to my mum and passing messages on, faxing info to our insurance in the UK. Once I was back at the hotel anything we needed if they could do it they would!

Overrated!

Our stay at the Delta Chelsea over our Reading Week was average. The lobby and location were great but that's about where it ended. Our room was at best adequate: it was small, dated, and not overly clean. We found some of the staff members rude: there was an obvious mistake with our bill and one member of the staff actually had the nerve to question us about it. Also, the staff member in charge of the fitness/pool area was fairly rude to us and some other guests. However, the rest of the staff was very friendly and eager to help and their restaurant offers a wide selection for breakfasts and lunches in a market place style. Although our stay was okay on the most part, we will definitely check out another hotel first when returning to Toronto.

Getting run down

I have stayed at the Chelsea for several years. Each year I return I find the rooms to be steadily deteriorating. The location is great, the large entrance grand, however the rugs and bathroom in rooms is questionable.

Great location, fantastic rate!

The Delta Chelsea is a huge (1,500+ rooms) hotel smack dab in the center of downtown Toronto. It's always busy and packed with lots of stuff.

The large lobby has an English look with lots of polished wood and several restaurants and bars. Check in was quick and efficient on my recent stay (jan 31-feb 2, 2003), as was express check out. The color-coded elevator banks allow for fairly efficient movement of SOOO many guests.

Rooms are on the smallish side, but are well-decorated and squeaky clean. The bathrooms are slightly smaller than average for comparable properties (ie sheratons or marriotts).

The hotel is always a beehive of activity with guests coming and going at all hours. The hotel has a nice pool and fitness room.

Delta Chelsea is on Gerrard, just off Yonge Street. The stretch of Yonge near the hotel is a bit sleazy (at least by Toronto standards), but the hotel is a short stroll from the huge Eaton Centre shopping complex. It's also close to the College and Dundas subway stations, meaning all of Toronto's many sights and attractions are a quick subway ride away.

Best of all, deals at the Delta Chelsea are among the best in Toronto. Weekend rates are fantastic. It's not the top of the line as far as luxury goes but it's hard to recommend against staying here for most people.

Not bad at all

from A TripAdvisor Member
Unlike previous reviewers, I actually thought the Delta Chelsea offered good value. I just returned from TO and spent 2 nights at the hotel. Check-in was quick, the desk staff was courteous, the room was clean, and the hotel's location was quite convenient.

Not a four star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed there this weekend intending on being there for 3 nights. I found that is was very over rated. We only stayed one night and went to a hotel (Best Western) near the airport. The rooms were small (had a Premier Room) and over priced. The underground parking was terrible. the ceiling was very low and we were terrified to pull into the garage but we did. $18.00/night for parking was ridiculous. The pool area was not that great and the whirlpool was dirty. Will not stay there again.

The Delta Chelsea Hotel is the worst place to stay !!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My stay at the Delta Chelsea Hotel was by far the worst hotel experience of my life. I arrived at the hotel with my confirmed reservation at the appropriate check-in time of 3pm. They’re motto of “ You’re Room is Ready “ is very inaccurate. I learned after waiting in line for over 45 minutes that my room wouldn’t be ready till after 7pm. They didn’t seem sympathetic to my obvious frustration seeing as how I had tickets to a play that night. I demanded to talk to a manager. After waiting again, a manager appeared and didn’t care about my plight. He offered no alternatives and, didn’t even offer to reduce my room rate, which was quite high considering the hotel was nowhere as nice as it appeared in the brochures. My experience at the Delta Chelsea Hotel was disgusting. The rooms are over priced and dirty, the food was rancid and the service was abysmal. It took over an hour for my luggage to arrive, and the bellman made no apology and had the nerve to wait around for a tip?? Our air conditioner was broken, it took 12 tires to get thru to the hotel operator, who then cut us off. After calling again, we were assured maintenance would be there right away, they finally showed up after repeated calls on our part and considerable time. We asked to the front desk to switch rooms and they were abrupt and said, “ we’re busy, and we don’t have time right now to help you.” On top of all this … we were charged over $26 per day for parking. If you can believe it, I’ve left out some stuff. Whether you plan on going there on business or for fun, I strongly suggest you don’t stay at the Delta Chelsea Hotel, in Toronto, Ontario. I though maybe it was just me.. But after talking to other disgruntled guests, I know now. The Delta Chelsea is by far the worst hotel.

Not worth it.

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have read the comments on this hotel and I agree. Bad service, they lost my reservation and offered me a smoking room until I complained. There was no heat in the room. The common services are poor, long line-ups at desks. The worlds slowest evevators in a Hotel I have ever seen. Small rooms that are marginal at best.

Stayed one night and left (never to return at any price) a spent two evening the quiet luxury of the Hilton.

Disorganised Chaos

from A TripAdvisor Member
Lovely hotel, but totally disorganized. Staff were very unfriendly and on 3 occasions made a mistake with our bill. It took over 30 minutes to check out and no one staff member gave us the same information regarding the hotels policies and procedures.

We spent alot of money and were made to feel like our business did not matter. Be warned!
