... going back and no-one telling me til the next morning over breakfast!)... When the boat departed from Koycegiz I was the only person on it - aside from the driver/captain and his mother (who was also the cook; the waitress and a better skilled sailor/navigator than her son who on the way back, slept at the back of the boat while she steered!!). I was on my own for an hour as we sailed out ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjenI was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
... tour to an island that will most likely also have undergone a similar transition.
Does this actually benefit the area? I have to assume that it does, that the number of tourists who travel through from cruise liners and package holidays enjoy the ability to simply relax away from home, thus bringing in vital income to the area. But I hope that areas that cater to the travellers market (for people like myself) is not ignored as ...
... producing event for me. This time, however, is was simply painful. How ironic can life be? She’s in love with me. I’m in love with her husband. And he? He’s in love with . . . (Oh, how I wish I could write “me” but no . . .), he is in love with her and very committed to her and their adorable kids.
So we ‘sorted it out’ and I continued attempting to focus my mind on manifesting rather than feeling lack but the horses ...
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... s just about all we got. We stopped at a quaint shop on the way out of town where we lost a few people just doing the Gallipoli/Troy tour. Bye bye Kiley and Elliot, who found the real meaning of ANZAC day in the game two up...
From Troy we headed to Pergamum, an ancient Hellinistic capital of Anatolia.
Turkey is a big big country. Bus trips are very very long. The second day of the Fez Tour was very very long.

Bodrum is the Turkish name of Alikarnasos, once belonged to Greece. Greeks had to leave behind their belongings - businesses, houses, - and flee to other countries to be saved after the Turkish persecution in 1922. (My grandfather was one of them who left behind everything and went to the Island of Cyprus in a boat to be saved. His brother got in another boat for Greece, and they had never ...
... s excursion was further a field - back out to the start of the peninsula, where the main road runs around the north coast, then take a minor road into the hilly interior and down to the coast on the southern side - an area that is way less touristed because its so hard to get to. The drive was through some very rugged landscapes - rocky, scrubby hills (or small mountains), with deep gullies. Every so often we came on some flatter land in a high valley where people farmed and there ...
Yalikavak, Turkey tandc2007... and heading off to Bodrum town. Bodrum is the main town on the whole peninsula - and the peninsula is effectively dedicated to holiday makers - Turkish, and other nationalities. The amount of development here is incredible - the peninsular is a large area of land and while the mountainous interior doesn't have much besides rocks, scrub and some animals, the coastline is covered in resorts, hotels, holiday apartments and small town houses. The centre of Bodrum town has ...
