Hello from the bellybutton of the world!
Greek myth posits that Zeus came to this place and released 2 eagles, one to the east and one to the west. Where the 2 met is Delphi, which is considered the birthplace of the world, where Zeus began life, i.e. the bellybutton of the world. Interesting, no?
But besides the myth of this place, it was pretty beautiful here. Up in the mountains, small mountain (and pretty touristic) town... our tour guide told us that it is the second-most ...

... very reason. The first part of the tour involved a walk through the excellent museum which contains works in stone, ivory, gold, silver and bronze. The workmanship given the time when they were made is quiet astounding, in particular the silver skin of the life size bull and the bronze charioteer.
Aspa dragged us around and all the while kept up a commentary which was informative, in-depth and interesting. She seemed to love imparting facts and ...
... Pick up holy (...!) plastic bag in act of atonement. Lyn walky-talkies me: she is ready. Be there in just over an hour I promise.
As I descend, the clouds melt away: perhaps my gestures are acknowledged, after all...
Spend rest of afternoon relaxing in campsite - not something we have done much of, lately.
Also successfully un-bug laptop, so am able to post this in real time (virtually).
... Don't. So decide to press on to Delphi, now we on this road. Most spectacular approach into heartland of Greece: massive mountains on all sides! Huge perspectives; staggering roads.
As we head up to the ancient seat of worship and myth, sun legendarily breaks through!
Find magnificent camping - views down to Gulf of Corinth. The ancients called this the 'navel of the world': you can see why.
Museum a must; well-presented artefacts & ...
... the beginning – some hours ago there was no answer at all. Everyone was out helping. The last 45 minutes we are told to wait, and wait.
Yianni asks a friend of ours to check on the house. He is driving there now to see and call us back. We are in agony. I hope to hear good news though!
We don't know much of what is happening, and my daughter and son keep ...
On our way from Bucharest to Zakynthos we spent a night in Delphi. Parnassos Hotel is right in the heart of Delphi, with its incredible tight streets full of tavernas, hotels and boutiques. The atmosphere in the evening is wonderfull, people go out in the streets, they go out to have dinner, everybody is dressed carefully, and local people are as friendly as they can be. Find a nice ...
Delphi, Greece cipitria... would you ask of The Oracle today?

... 8 pm we would have to keep it all night long and return it in the morning. Having a big van in Athens all night was the last thing we wanted. So we raced back to Athens and dropped the van off just in time. After a few beers at the apartment and a few at the pub we had a rather forgettable meal at a restaurant that was close by and headed off to sleep.

Delphi, Central Greece, Greece louise_et_marc... Cyphnus were well preserved. Unlike many of the treasuries which were put in place after a war, this treasury was put in place after the island hit a strain of gold and wanted to show off their new wealth. The reliefs told myths about Heracles, Zeus, Apollo, the Trojan War, and the battle of the giants. It was all from the archaic period which was pretty neat. We saw a giant sphinx statue that was on top of the temple of Apollo. They had some pretty unique things at the museum like some ...
