43 - 55 Trafalgar Street Nelson, South Island, New Zealand, 64-3-548-9774
... Christchurch) for Sunday and Monday nights - there's a chance everything won't be shut there. But Nelson is nice and has yet more Art Deco buildings mixed in with modern . Our motel is on Trafalgar Street (of course) and at the other end stands Nelson Cathedral. Originally designed at the turn of the last century to look like a typical English cathedral complete with flying buttresses and a enormous spire, due to changes in funding and that sort of thing, it's ended up ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand chris_calcite... get an idea. It was also nice to see along the west coast and what it had on offer, endless beaches and farmland with many sheep.. there were still many mountains in the backdrop which seemed to be neverending (think they have ended now though).

Another lovely drive. The last half of the bus journey was staightforward, however, with no major stops..and here i am in Nelson, only to see it in th dark. Leaving tomorrow morning...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand tracymiller... and truly in New Zealand! On our first night we went to a place called ‘Waipu’ (pronounced whypooh - hilarious), where we parked up at a ‘Department of Conservation’ campsite - situated at a beautiful location by the beach. We went for a walk along the beach just as the sun was setting, creating a beautiful pink and purple sky, we then returned to camp on our little stove that came with the van before going to bed in the back and watching a dvd - the ...
Marahau, Nelson, New Zealand katandstevieGreetings from Nelson, New Zealand. We've finally made it to the South Island. I'm sitting in an internet cafe chilling out to Jack Johnson's "On and On" (very smooth music) in Nelson, the "Sun Capital of New Zealand." Every town in this country is the capital of something. We passed Havelock on the way here... the green mussel capital of New Zealand... It just goes on and on. It's been a few days since the last post. For ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand jimmyandkristen... is fast food, you tell me why. I never believe what these guides say. Anyhow got picked up in a minibus and transfered into a water taxi which then ferried me and other lucky souls to the far North of the park where we were dropped off at Totaranui as the tides were in our favour. Spent the rest of the day hiking the northern section of the track. This is first time every one of us on this ...
Abel Tasman, South Island, New Zealand dj-travelblog09... h.
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand carolinetogna... commercial where "I've fallen and I can't get up"! So, A2 will be sore for a couple of days to come. We managed to walk through a sea gull nesting ground which scrambled all of the local bird militia. We ran and ducked as best we could to avoid getting beaked and pooped on. After slogging through the mud we got to the edge of the nesting area and a grey heron swooped in to distract the gulls. We felt bad ...
Motueka, South Island, New Zealand oulous... As we drove to the airfield the driver explained that the wind over there is much lighter than on the Nelson side of the bay. It blows straight in off the sea and doesn't effect the flying !! Yeah great!!! :( Apparaently they only lost 6 days all last year, amazing when you think of Franz Josef!! Looked like all would be well for the flight after all. When we arrived at the airfield I had to sign a waiver form before I could fly. The most ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand altheclem... started here by a Kiwi fashion designer whos shows now attract so many (30,000 at the last one) that they have had to be moved to Wellington. The rain continued as we wound our way along the coast to Able Tasman and eventually we arrived in Marahau on the southern edge of the park. Still raining we decided to spend the afternoon watching movies in the van. Alex has this sorted to a tee now, we ...
Nelson, New Zealand therhodesies... setting up life in. While it is a pretty town, I'm not sure there's enough going on to move here. We popped into the local cineplex and watched Indiana Jones (the most recent one, they're not that backward here) while munching on popcorn. All very domestic. After a day spent wandering around Nelson, we set off late, and in the wrong direction for Picton. 20 miles down the road and an about turn and we were on the right ...
