Due in part to the cardinals game earlier that day, and the 5 hour drive after it, we didn't get in to Chicago until around 10pm, paid 44 bucks for overnight parking and had the most terrifying driving experience of our lives.

The emergency crews that then converged on the scene attempted to plug a hole that was now over 6 metres wide with everything from truckloads of rocks to old mattresses. They tried lowering the Chicago River by opening and closing locks, but it was only stopped when a private company drilled shafts into the flooded tunnel near Kinzie street and plugged it. Next on the list was the Chicago River and Lake Michigan tour by Wendella Boat Tours so I now jumped on a bus that dropped me off halfway up State Street. Thankfully, I was only heading up to the Wrigley Building (yes it is the headquarters of the Wrigley Chewing Gum Company) as the boat departs from the quay down from the North Michigan Avenue Bridge.
