... home made Italian coffee and a blackcurrant tart at a small cabana. Simon couldn't believe I didn't do the hike, once I saw his pictures I couldn't believe it either! I did manage to do a very small hike out to the Truful Truful waterfall where I met the first English speaking people of the trip who turned out to be Chileans living in Chicago. I decided against camping at the only campsite in the area, as it looked fairly ...

The cabin boxes could have been packed full of bananas (note to Chilean customs: they were not). Over the border we headed for Pucon, a tidy lakeside town at the base of Volcano Villarica. ... different to all the other countries we´ve visited so far, much quicker and not pronouncing all the letters.

Unfortunately we didn´t have enough time to do the hike as we had arrived too late in the evening to make the arrangements needed.

The next day we took a walk along the lake, Tony made friends with another dog (of course) that we managed to eventually shake off by going into a shop and we did a bit ...

... That was it for the next 5 hours. The wind became absolutely ferocious and I genuinely felt like I could have been blown off the volcano face at any time. I had to stop so many times just to get a good enough stance to stop that from happening. Sometimes almost crouching/in a foetal position, it was that bad. The snow underfoot was frozen completely solid and the only hope you had of staying upright was to step into the well-trodden frozen footsteps of the guides ...
