... From here we took a lift up to the very pretty old city of Taormina. This little town perched high on the hill has been a coastal resort town since Roman times. We walked the cobbled streets of balconied terrace houses and shops. Many of the balconies contained examples of the unique ceramics the town is renowned for. The shops were exquisite and and I know several people who would LOVE to put in a day or two perusing! The fashions ...

... Taormina, and public car park cost 18€ a day. The town is spectacular, perched on a cliff 200mtrs above sea level. Full tourist town, with boutiques and restaurants lining the main drag, and little hotels and bnb's everywhere. Mainly Italian tourists, and plenty of them. Found our bnb easily enough- on the main duomo square. Typical old apartment converted to rooms, but this one has a communal kitchen. Called BNB 4 ...

Dinner at Alpero Restaurant just cause it looked interesting. Great food and helpful owner who suggested Antipesti. Caponata al cocao and Fritelle mele e speck. The first was like a stir fried veg dish with small cubes of aubergine, mushroom, capsicum, celery and heaps olive oil. Said no to the cocao- can't imagine what that would be like. Second ...

... 70€ incl breakfast. Reasonable size comfy room. Sain'Antonio Garden Park. Friendly family run place. Interesting that there are no big hotel chains through Sicilia- mainly family run operations. Had dinner up the road accompanied by karaoke- place was filling with families as we left at 2130. Don't know when the little kids sleep. Highlight of dinner was pistachio pizza- a first and last time for me. Not sweet but way too much ...

... second to none. Plus, we were fortunate enough to attend an Italian Opera presentation on Saturday evening. Not really being opera buffs we couldn't help but appreciate the incredible skill and talent required to sing opera. We will always have fond memories of our stay in Taormina...next it's off to Malta we ...
