109 Lake Louise Drive Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Canadian Rockies, Alberta, Canada, T0L 1E0, 403-522-3747

I have been out in the mountains for over a week now and definitely experienced an entire spectrum of weather. We arrived in Calgary to brilliantly clear blue skys and frigid temperatures which quickly changed to days of endless wintery mix precipitation. Nadine, Heather, Ian and I spent no time in Calgary but instead zipped straight up to our hotel in Canmore where we met up with Chris. Chris and I decided to splash out on our own room at the Windtower Hotel where the others were staying. A ...
Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Canada aliciatravelsOnward the next day, through the 260 kms of majestic and awe inspiring scenery of the Icefields Parkway which runs from Jasper to Lake Louise. There are endless photo opportunities but the "wow" factor is hard to capture on camera, simply because it never portrays the sheer scale and size of it all. It seems one man is largley responsible for mapping the area - David Thompson is reputed to have traveled 50,000 miles by canoe, horse and foot in the late 1700's. We were impressed too, by the vi...

Kootenay National Park, Alberta, Canada swissbear... hard work, we were treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscape. We also had a memorable encounter with a 75 lb Golden Lab named Sasha and her owners from the Okanagan Valley in BC. Sasha was equipped with "saddle bags" and carried about 18 lbs, including a 6-pack of beer! Her owners asked if we had any extra AA batteries for their camera so we swapped a ...
The Rockwall, British Columbia, Canada foothills_bears... How was the water so blue? It was so beautiful! I could have stared at that lake for hours, maybe even days. We ate lunch at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise. The restaurant faced the lake, and the food was delicious. All three of us had a shrimp and lobster croissant with a side salad. Yum yum yum. After lunch we had one last look at the lake and headed back to Banff.

Then we walked to the Banff Hot ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada ashleylutt... the ice and onto the glacier. It was a beautiful day, with no wind (apparantly the day before the wind chill factor had been minus 20), and we got to throw ice balls, do the whole photo thing, and generally just marvel in the wonderment of nature. Apparantly there are periods called ice-age, and what we are now in, called 'advanced' stage, which is where the summers are longer and everything is melting. These periods can ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada foremanHi Folks! We had a picturesque cycle from Cranbrook through Kimberley to Wasa, where we swam in the lovely warm lake. It was so tranquil. Next day we had a 70 mile cycle up the Columbia Valley, from Canal Flats through Fairmont and Windermere to Radium Hot Springs. Fantastic scenery and no big climbs. There are 16 golf courses in the area as well as a few hot springs. Stayed at Misty River Lodge/Hostel run by ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada eoinandrosie... tiny thimble-size) and the view from my room was fantastic too - looking straight across the lake over to Mt Louise (have I got that name right?). The room was a designated wheelchair access room so the bathroom was huge - it even had a spa bath!!!! - one of regular bath size with the jets - but a spa bath just the same. I set the alarm for just before sunrise as apparently from the rooms, if it is a clear day, one can see the alpenglow on ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada jules.in.canadaWe both slept very well in our comfortable, quite soft, King sized bed and were happy to have a reasonably early breakfast. Our room is on a floor with its own lounge, which we can use. They serve a delicious buffet breakfast, including omelettes cooked to order. During the day we can help ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada tomodea... she kept saying that the tent was not going to be there when we got out of the bathroom to go to bed. Good thing I pegged it in really well. I have never seen so much rain in my life. There was a puddle of water around each of the tents and so much lightning and thunder. Aparently we were lucky some other sites got hail as well! All that rain meant that Kicking Horse River was going off! They had to close the lower canyon for any water rafting cause you had a 50/50 chance of dying ...
