I arrýved ýnto Turkey wýthout to much fuss although the bus was a být of a joke. The Turkýsh guys runnýng the bus seemed to be fussýng all the týme about some goods they were clearly tryýng to take over the border ýnto Turkey. The border crossýngs at both sýdes were a být of a joke but ...
Antakya, Hatay, Turkey richardcowley... to drink the water and be cured of their sicknesses. We opted to just touch the water with our fingers. We then went out to find the path up the hill out back. There is a head carved in the mountain stone. Not knowing the way we followed people walking up the hill to the left, which took us through muck and sheep droppings (smelly, yuck!). Half way up the hill we find out we are going the wrong way and now have to find our way down to the muck again. It was quite ...
Antakya, Hatay, Turkey loelai... visas beforehand in the belief that despite suggestions to the contrary, it would always be possible to get them at the various borders and would probably be cheaper this way. This however was our first attempt so we were unsure what to expect. Luckily for us, the coach couldn't leave for Aleppo until everyone had passed through both sets of customs, so we were assigned an escort with the task of railroading us through the overly complicated ...
Bab al Hawa, Syria vague-abonding... to assume there are some erotic works. Why else? (Turkish internet is censored. But there are ways around it. Ask your nearest high school or college student).

His other site --artmajeur.com/varoltopac--has pictures. The last I looked, two of the pictures there were censored.

After the meal we walked up into the old part of town, to an old Ottoman home that has been nicely converted into a tea house. There is an inner open-air court yard and a couple of side indoor ...
Antioch, Hatay Province, Turkey oldrover... settle, living by myself in Bursa. Inşalla). Then we talked further until the bus left. It's rather humbling, treatment like this (See previous entry).

Shortly out of Niğde I got a call on my cell phone from a fellow in Antakya. I am a member of a social network of travellers (sort of like Facebook). The essential idea is that one can "couchsurf" with like-minded members who will take you into their residence and essentially give you free lodging--along with ...
Antakya, Hatay, Turkey oldroverI crossed over into Turkey today... it's starting off really great. It's really quite green here... there continues to be more and more life to the landscape as I make my way north. There are some really nice looking smallish mountains here that I'd like to climb already! I'm in Antakya, which doesn't seem to get all that much praise in the guidebook, but I quite like it... there's the mountain backdrop with some houses ...
Antakya, Turkey sting... a ****** day than inside a museum. The Antakya museum is meant to house one of the world's finest collection of mosaics, so I was really looking forward to it.

The mosaics were very impressive indeed and a good way to spend a couple of hours until the rain cleared. Some of them were nearly 100% intact apart from a small patch here and there and the detail in some of them was quite extraordinary, I really hope my photos do them justice. After the museum the ...
