... some more great live music. There was a free concert being held in Guadalajara as part of an annual arts festival that takes place in the city and regularly attracts famous authors, filmmakers and musicians (this year it includes Carlos Fuentes, Los Lobos and LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson).
The band playing tonight was a collective from Los Angeles called "Ozomatli". I had never heard of them before, and they easily outperformed my expectations. Ozomatli incorporate ...

Puerto Vallarta, Durango, Mexico exploravallarta... noticed amongst the trillions of trinkets and tacky tourist gifts. The proprietor brings it down. I can tell Michael likes the shirt. 595 pesos. Michael balks, turns on his heels to walk away and the man urges him to “Calm down, Senor, relax. What would you like to pay for the shirt?”
They haggle and finally settle on a price of 140 pesos, about 10 US dollars. Michael is happy, I am beat, the humidity is God awful, and we are both ...
Finally, the reward for living through all of the storm. A beautiful morning - and finally feeling better.
Got off the Ship briefly before we left (total of 20 minutes) to take a few pictures.
Back onboard by 1pm.
At 4pm Classic Disco T-dance (delayed due to our extended stay in PV).
Arrived in Puerto Vallarta - safe and sound. Rained most of the day. I stayed in bed most fo the day trying to kick the flu.
By nightfall it was a beautiful sunset under clearer skies.
But Mazatlan was closed due to weather - and thus we stayed for another day in PV.

Rincon de Guayabitos, Pacific Coast, Mexico dinojay2... it hard to shake some of the odd 1940's prep school slang old Holden uses. I really am. Right after Andie and Ryan left, old George's daughter and three granddaughters arrived to stay for five weeks, effortlessly bursting our comfortably secluded little bubble. They are actually quite a nice group, the mom and three girls between the ages of 7 and 12, although there has been a significant increase in the overall level of squealing coming from the pool ...
Rincon de Guayabitos, Pacific Coast, Mexico dinojay2... Island! Don't be fooled into thinking the name is meant to be ironic, though. Nope, this island is the real deal. Once you've finished haggling poorly for a boat ride to the island it's a quick ten minute jaunt across the calm bay with great views of Guayabitos beach the whole time. You'll pass charming old shrimp boats as you approach a picturesque spit of sand hemmed in on three sides by high rocky ...
Rincon de Guayabitos, Pacific Coast, Mexico dinojay2... parts of beaches on the French Riviera, like in Nice for instance, there is a decided lack of fine sable sand as the beach is a pebble beach that can be murder on the feet. The most famous of the Mexican Rivieras is the "Mayan Riviera" which has got to be the destination of choice for most short-term tourists in Mexico. It is located along the Caribbean coast, south of Cancun towards Playa de Carmen and Tulum. It is worth noting ...
Rincon de Guayabitos, Pacific Coast, Mexico lobo... than they are in Puerto Vallarta. Now let's get back to our hotel for a moment, the Hotel M. Estela located out by the highway. The friendly bilingual manager, Gustavo Montes, who had spent a number of years in the United States before his abrupt return, was only too glad to show us what he had to offer in the way of long-term stay accommodations. As the photos will attest, in a classic case of "you get what you pay for", the comfort ...
