... fortunately it is on the driver’s side. It continues to pour as we blow by the exit. Yomi shouts at the driver for missing the exit; the driver then starts backing up on the expressway in poor visibility. I am holding onto my seat tightly, just waiting to be rear-ended. Thankfully traffic is light and we don’t get killed reversing to the exit ramp.

We arrive at the hotel about 10:27. It has taken 3 hours 47 minutes to travel the 40 miles back to Lagos ...

My first problem of the day began after breakfast when I spoke with the front-desk attendant about arranging a taxi to the ABC Transport booking office in the Falomo Shopping Center. The map in my book indicates it’s only about two miles but the first taxi driver he called wanted 3,000 naira ($18.40). He called another driver and we bargained down to N 1,500 ($9.20).
