Belize 13th May - 16th May Days 105 - 108 I bussed it down to Belize with Matt for one reason only, to dive the Blue Hole, a 400m diameter circular reef 145m deep. The Blue Hole is renowned as one of the worlds best dive sites, and it didn't disappoint. Just off the coast of Belize, Caye Caulker was our traffic free (except golf carts) island base for the dive, and what and island. Our water taxi from the mainland passed by some incredible scenery, turquoise seas, palm fringed beaches, typica...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize chrissmith300... 2pm, come join us' Mmmm, that reassured me! We later learned that an incident happed between 2 locals over drugs and didn't effect any tourist whatsoever. Phew....

Caye Caulker's moto is 'Go Slow' and that is exactly what it is like. There are no cars on the island just bicycles and golf buggies. The locals are so laid back and its got a Carribean feel to it. Although there is not an actual beach, the island is made up of white sand and the water is crystal clear ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize kelmo... br>
Caye Caulker is an incredibly laid back island. It is very small and only has two streets that run the length of the island that can be traversed on foot in less than an hour. The streets are made of compacted sand and there are no cars allowed on the island. People ride around in bicycles or golf carts. It was all very cool.

The water here is very warm and placid, no waves whatsoever. You can see clear to the bottom without a problem. The only thing that ...

Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize mmenard... at a sports bar where we watched the last game of the NBA finals and had a few belkins. Later that evening Tracy and I went to Willy's for the best jerk chicken i've had outside of jamaica. We made it a pretty early night and headed off to sleep.
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize jack2312What a difference! Caye Caulker is a tiny island about an hour boat ride from Belize City. Finally we found a place without massive resorts and massive americans... alright, I´ll ease up. You get off the water taxi and all you see are beautiful colours, sand paths they called roads, no cars! and beach everywhere you looked! The locals walked barefoot and all you could hear was reggae. We loved it! We ...
Caye Caulker, Belize ellisa_5Day 5 - August 3rd 2008, 3.14pm UK time (8.14am Belize time!) - The grand arrival of a new addition to the Hogarth/ Dolphin family - Madison India! We'd decided to stay on the island another day, with Sasha going into the first stages of labour the day before it felt right to wait around in the hope that today would be the day plus neither of us felt like leaving this chilled lifestyle yet. At about 8.30am we were woken by the owners young boy banging on our door shouting ...
Caye Caulker, Belize nikandads2008... that people's generosity and openness only increase towards a lone traveler. I have yet to eat a meal alone and on day trips I always meet people en el camino and end up spending a few hours or a few days exploring with them, and of course...being tranquilo. Guatemala has been one of the most fascinating countries I have visited so far. Its people are beautiful - in every sense of the word. Guatemalans enjoy the ...
Caye Caulker, Belize snowchick2001... is the only hand cranked bridge still in use in the Americas. It was built in Liverpool and opened in 1923. They open it twice a day, at 5.30 am and at 6 pm. crossing there we continued to the Museum of Belize, this is housed in what used to be the main prison. It was built, in 1867, from bricks that came from Britain as ballast on the ships. The prison was last used in 1983 and eventually opened as a museum in 96. It is quite a small ...
Belize City, Belize mikeandmary... Update #6: 11:03:46 PM - After leaving the cabin, we ran into The Family in the hallway. All this time and we never knew ... they were staying just down the hall from us! Joy! Joy! Joy! I gave my best stalker stare as the older of the HLS walked by. Off to see the adult comedy show. Much better this time - it had the requisite amount of dirtiness and profanity to make me laugh. Or maybe it was funny only because we pounded back those rum and cokes.
