... they made they offered us a tasting which was most enjoyable and we bought some cognac and some of their gorgeous Pineau. As they are farmers and have 200 hectares of grain as we'll there was an immediate hook up with Leicester and although neither could speak each other's language there was communication flowing with hand movements etc and soon they were both up in the combined harvester with the engine running and things moving up and down. An earlier start this morning - we were on the road by 8.20 so we could hit the autoroute. We got as far as La Rochelle, well to be exact, just off the coast: the Ile de Re. What a beautiful spot. ... and they harvested cockles,oysters, crabs, lobsters and a few fish which poked their heads out of the water and looked at us as we peered into their tank. We walked around the towers, two which still stand at the mouth of the old port while the third tower now stands over a silted shipyard which has become a car park.
