The land of Senegal

Jamaica Mon!

Jamaica was my very first missions trip. I went with Shayna and Chad for one week and we had an amazing and eye opening experience. The water was beautiful and we went to ocho rios and climbed the waterfal too-it was so beautiful! We also witnessed poverty and need in ways that we had never seen before. We were able to minister God's love to people but honestly I think we all took away much more from this experience than we could ever give!

Just landed... Welcome mat

I got a ride from the airport to the upper town. After check in, I ventured in the city and was soon offered some "stuff". Oh well, no thank you. The Bob Marley museum is quite interesting and probably the only notable attraction in Kingston (other than this feeling of being in a different country).

Finally a new entry.. Livin´ La vida Loca!

... caves, a little boat tour etc. On Saterday night we, as a frist, went home eatly, around 12, because Sunday we had to catch out bus to Trinidad at 7.00am! It takes about 6 hours to travel by bus to Trinidad but it was good though. I expected Trinidad to be alot bigger than it was but it was still a lot of fun since they have a Casa de la Musica and a Casa de la Trova which are (partially) outside.. Funny thing was that we ran into Valli and ...

The Road Less Travelled

... it was also right beside the main road. Everyone should travel equipped with earplugs! Steve, aka Tooloo, was a manager of Winnifred Beach Mikuzi. His mother, "Sixteen", also worked for the Mikuzi cleaning rooms. Steve had spent a year in Toronto with his Dad who has been there since 1988 and drove a bus. He is a modern Jamaican and does not belief in Rastafarianism. He does not understand how it is possible to worship a person as Rastas do. It's quite ...

Are you from foreign?

... I thought she meant let me take your picture. So I said to her that I don't want my picture taken. The sectary laughs and tells me that isn't what she wants. Turns out "let me see you in camera" is an old saying that not all Jamaicans use but it means let me see you in private. The guidance counselor wanted me to stop by her office so we could chat privately. I completely missed that. I've now adopted that saying. Everyday is something new. This past weekend my friend ...

Two cricket matches, Bob Marleys House and Murder!

... Uncle Smiley ! We then rented a car, a task which is straightforward in most countries, but not Jamaica. All the agencies (including Hertz and Avis) said they don't follow global policies, they have special ones applicable in Jamaica only ! You also have to pay a LOT for insurance and even then there's a $1000 excess you have to pay if you damage the car....yes, read that again, you pay a large amount ...

... friendly mosquito! Pass the deet please!...all of my organic healthy living is going out the window!! Love you...today, I do miss you... Suzanne P.S. I finally have been able to download pics onto a disc, but you will have to wait for a couple of days as my escorts are giving me ugly looks! P.S.S. The guy next door came over the first morning I was here and proceeded to place his leg over on his head and jump on one foot for my entertainment!

Yea Mon - Me' Live Ere

... man stretch your legs! Here in the mountains, people tether their goats but not their dogs. We have taken to walking with a few good sized stones in a pocket along with a bottle of water and always an umbrella for it rains almost daily. November is the last month of the rainy season, which will leave the island some time to soak up all the rain that continues to flood river banks, flood pit latrines and low-lying things. Here shoes are only for the road and yard as all try and stop ...
