... after collecting all their stamps they were 'knighted' by the lady in the shop and received a medallion! The display was very interactive. The kids could try on the costumes of old (maidens and knights in shining armour). Really excellent being able to walk through the old castle. ... H van Kessel hospitality was enjoyed and generally a great time was had by all.

That afternoon we had a long bike ride in the countryside and on to Weesp - another beautiful small town nearby, to work off at least some of that amazing lunch. Flat roads, amazing bicycle infrastructure, mild weather, so much vegetarian food in the supermarket, windmills.. Where are we? ... The Netherlands!! Welcome to the Netherlands. Today we rode 65kms with absolute ease along a beautiful bicycle freeway which is easily accessible, very nice to ride on and structured better than some of our freeways at home! How could this be? Paul and I were so surprised and impressed at the quality of these bike paths. At some points ...

... with raw onions on top. It's like their snack - some people were even eating it for breakfast. We weren't game enough to try is, so we stuck to paella and calamari rings.

In our last two days, we visited Den Haag (where parliament is). Interesting fact - unlike most countries where the capital city is usually where the parliament is located, the Netherlands calls Amsterdam its capital city rather than Den Haag because Den Haag actually ...
