This trip of a lifetime was to celebrate Ann's 60th. Her actual birthday is in May but this trip only goes in the Antarctic summer - December to March. We booked and travelled with Titan Hi Tours and we were part of a relatively small party of 18 travellers and our courier, so easy to get to know others and to make friends. We left the UK on Valentine's Day. After a long overnight flight from the UK, we arrived in Buenos Aires at 11:00 - a hot bustling city - and were taken to our Hotel - de ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina ann.and.trevorHi all, Well the first day of the trip, there I was sitting at Sydney airport still not really comprehending that its here, this trip that until now was just lots of preparing checking gear etc. I am sitting at the airport bags checked waiting for the plane. By the way happy to say 59kg total luggage checked only one snag, I was under the total allowance being 64kg but I had an extra bag they wanted to slug me an extra $290 for the extra bag, well after smiling nicely at the lady behind the d...
Buenos Aires, Argentina blairn99Well what a ****** nights sleep! I am sure now that the altitude (3500masl) gives me quite savage nightmares, I was thinking this before I went to Machu Picchu but now I am sure, I hardly ever dream at home but here wow. So I am glad to be back at sea level in Buenos Aries. I am of tomorrow for city tour to check this place out, as until now I have only transited. will give you all an update tomorrow. Bye for now. PS Mount Kosiosko tips out at 2220 meters bove sea level.
Buenos Aires, Argentina blairn99Day 23 Buenos Aires Had a great sleep last night I am happy to say the altitude induced nightmares and dreams are now back to normal. Today I went on the city tour and had a good look around the city from a mini bus and then got off a couple of times once In the traditional centre of town near the pink House that is where the president works and you may have seen it in the movie or stage show Evita, as it is where Eva Peron and her husband Che addressed the masses. Once again the same as Lima...
Buenos Aires, Argentina blairn99Day 24 Buenos Aires I am spending a day in Buenos Aires today, I thought that I would take the half day tour of the Tigre River delta. I was under the impression that this was going to be a cruise through some very affluent areas with huge houses on the water front, enormous boats and great opulence. Well it is almost the opposite of that, the houses on the river banks are not much more than river shacks and are quite cheap to buy as they have no road access but they do have electricity and p...

Buenos Aires, Argentina blairn99Well every day is an adventure. You thought that it was over well so did I, I got to the aitport on time and the departure board said the plane was on time all was going to plan. Then the first delay 55 mins, then 45mins later the second 2.5 hours, this is not good I am now thinking to myself. Then bam out of the blue the board says see agent, never a good sign. The agent does not speak english that well so after a lot of gesturing we found that the incoming plane was diverted. so we are now ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina blairn99After our complimentary buffet breakfast at the DeLas Americas hotel we headed off down Santa Fe Avenue (opposite direction to last night) in search of a Post Office. We crossed De Julio Avenue, which is the very wide road that you have seen in travel books. There are about four sets of pedestrian crossings to navigate to the other side. We found the Post Office just down the road and the staff was very helpful with the mailing of our postcards. Joyce had to write a few more cards so I left h...
Buenos Aires, Argentina gmoAmazing Argentina!! We traveled to Argentina for our first wedding anniversary in April 2006. This was, without question, one of our favorite all-time destinations and one of our best trips ever. Coined the "Paris of South America", Buenos Aires is truly a remarkable city. It is extremely sophisticated and cosmopolitan; it's much more European than Latin and is a melting pot of European immigrants, mostly from Italy and Spain. We loved hearing multiple languages and of course I loved having t...

... a coconut) with my friend Leah. After 3 ½ days in Venezuela and a good hike I was pretty tired and ready to head back to La Guaira and hang out for a while before the ship took off for Brazil. I enjoyed my time in Venezuela. It is a country that is all at once Caribbean, Latin American and South American. It is home to the Amazon, the llanos (plains), the Andes, and the coast. It is a youthful place with an uncertain future. To me the most ...
