... is 3,883 metres or 12,739 feet high and this year on August 15th is the 150th anniversary of its first ascent. Every night at 9.30, 10.00 and 10.30pm skiers have been lighting different ski paths up the Matterhorn and it looks beautiful. We are so proud of ourselves for making the trek up the mountain and actually walking outside AND taking some of the most amazing photos. ... The castle was painted white, the reason for this was to preserve the brick and white paint was the cheapest form of preservation. On the way to Zermatt we came across the castle used as inspiration in the Harry Potter movies. Look at the photo attached. Phil also took a photo of a vineyard, there are many scattered along on the way. Also have a look at the colour of the alps, sorry for overhead wires in the way, the bus was ...

An early start, mainly due to not being able to sleep. Packed some bags and went for a walk to drop them off at the car with the intention to spot somewhere to have breakfast. We ended up back at our hotel in the sun. Lovely fresh croissants, cereals and fruit with French press coffee looking over the lake. We love this place! After checking out we set off towards Tasch, high into the alps, we took the lake road again and saw the most amazing vineyards, climbing up ...

... buy any rail passes etc as we have jagged half price fares for all our trains) was 100 Franc each ($150ish) Had to grit our teeth and bear that one but glad we did as it was absolutely amazing and we finally got to wear more than 2 layers of clothing!!! (was near 0 at the summit) The trip was Gondola cable cars up to a certain point then it was into a big cable car for the finally 700m ish to the highest cable car station in Europe. Plenty of skiers ...

... so finally bank on the train for a late pizza on the Spanish steps. Drinks in our apartment. I am exhausted, legs aching . But off we went to dinner close by. Hard to get a table for 7 so ended up inside. Dinner of pasta matriciana fairly mild with very al dente pasta. But a lovely multupulchiano. Followed by gelati of course. Finally bed slept like a ...
