Then on to La Ballue - a bit further east, quite out of the way, but well worth searching out. The chateau had some B&B rooms, which would be fabulous but out of our price range! We took the train to Rennes, the current capital of Brittany. It was a bit of a train ride getting there and as we approached the terminus we were a little bit disappointed with what we saw - modern buildings and high rises. Oh well we will just have to make the most of it.

... sense of direction is good, I know where we need to go, but the road we want we can't turn into, we have to travel in the wrong direction for some time and miss an alternate route, and soon it's apparent we are on the motorway back to Laval! But all who wander are not lost - I pick a town and a turn off from where we can reset our course, and it is nearly lunchtime.

So, unplanned, we arrive in Vitre, which turns out to be a ville d'arts et d'histoire - a town ...

... don't want to use the portaloo, which you may have noticed we usually tow behind in the dinghy. Why tow the dinghy? Not sure! But it came with the boat and is in good condition, not sure it will be after a few hundread locks sorry ecluses, it also reminds me that I have over 3 metres of mast sticking out the back of the boat.
