Oaxaca. Alex here...again. So, we arrived in Oaxaca no problems, nice smell free journey by bus from Puebla. Got the Eddie n' Pat's taxi to the De La Parra Hotel, beautiful building (see photos, that we might remember to attach later) HOWEVER the room is lacking in the window department, there is a window of sorts which is about the size of gnats ********, luckily Mia and I love an tungsten light source, so we'll live...the room itself is nice enough and there is a pool...good times. After op...
Oaxaca, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico pollakmenace
... We still haven’t made it to the chocolate factory, though it’s on the list for the future.
Today was election day in Oaxaca, and though I was a bit concerned it might escalate into something, there wasn’t much political activity in the zocalo. There are several hand-made banners strewn across the square showing violent brutalization of Oaxaquenos by the police in 2006, requesting donations to support the APPO ...
my third week in Oaxaca... the city starts to make sense, though with the same number of ppl as in Tallinn, its so much more busy... without any change of emotion you can see locals moving their small feet in the streets, busy and lack of oxygen... almost feels like i^d rather choke before breath in the breathable thing they call air here... im really looking forward to the rainy season.. hoping to clean my stuffed breathing system... my saviour is the nearby ...
Oaxaca, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico rambler... chicken and tortillas. All very nice.We had agreat day and would recommend that tour from Nomads Hostel to everyone who visits Merida. Friday was our last day in Merida and indeed Mexico. We started the day with a walking tour of the city which was excellent and after lunch went to the airport and caught our plane to Mexico City where we had a few hours before we got our flight to Lima Peru overnight. I was sad to leave Mexico as we had had a great time there. Sadly we had ...
Oaxaca, SanCristobal, Merida, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico kasnsqueak... brought food and water up from the valley below by manpower alone. The site is nearly 2000m above sea level so climbing around in the midday sun with a hangover and thin air was rough. Next day we booked a bus to San Cristobal, a deluxe bus at Franciscos request again which cost loads more than second or first class buses which annoyed me, everything seemed to cost a lot more than I expected in Mexico so far. We spent the day ...
Oaxaca, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico warty007Just got back from Monte Alban, where I ate a hot dog. What a weird, beautiful world we live in. Feeling a bit car sick and lonely, and very comtemplative. It´s a lot to take it, but I´m comforted by the fact that Zapotecs probably never imagined a time, 2500 years into the future, where hot dog eating tourists roamed their city.
Oaxaca, Mexico dmwalsh... to be concentrating so hard every day for so long, it makes me physically tired. Anyway during conversation class we went to the markets to walk around. We ended up sitting in a park though and talking. My teacher asked me about the rodeo in Houston so I was telling him about it saying we had concerts, food, drinks, rides, animals, competitions of all sorts, and just a lot to do there. I was on the animal topic and said and people show their animals and they are from FFA or 4-H ...
Oaxaca, Mexico tmpatton... oppression of too much heat and too many people. I weaved through the tightly bound alleys bourn on my the curious echo of the word chapulines bleeted out from somewhere in the dense, dark depths. FinallyIreached the stall and a mound of fried nightclickers or sleepstoppers, which ever you prefer are right in front of me. The bleeter turns out to be a walnut faced grandmother. I dont know why but the ...
Oaxaca, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico acfnoel... from these folks. I definitely want to go back and spend some more time there just reading and relaxing, not poking in every corner possible. The next day, Wednesday, was market day in Etla, a small village about 1/2 hour outside of Oaxaca City. This was going to be my day to figure out the locals buses, or as they call them here --collectivo taxis. They are basically school buses painted green and white. Some have tinted windows, some have totally ...
Oaxaca, Mexico roamingjodi... something special might be going on. I soon found myself in the middle of a pew, sandwiched between some old ladies and a family. Behind me, people kept coming and coming until the aisles and the doorways were all packed. At that point, I realized I was in for the long haul-- gracefully ducking out was no longer a possibility.
I´m not too familiar with American Catholic services, but I doubt they feature a brass band and synchronized fireworks. I´m also pretty ...
