After leaving our last Loire Valley chateau on May 10 (Day 136), we headed to our final Loire Valley destination, Orleans. Orleans was one of France's three wealthiest cities in the Middle Ages, and is in some ways the most stalwartly French city in France--unlike most of the country, Orleans has always belonged to France.
