    ... canal towpaths relatively quickly (the le greens Glastonbury playlist was very helpful!) before stopping in Marckolsheim for a snack, never seen anyone polish off 30 Jaffa cakes as quickly as simon did...     ... of the war. There are red and black Nazi swastikas on all the buildings and big, black German military cars in front of them. A few days after these were taken most of the town was destroyed in a huge bombing raid by the Allies. The big entrance tower to the town and the buildings immediately next to it are still there but all the surrounding streets are new.     Basel was only about 2 hours away so we had a leisurely breakfast and morning and set off around 1pm planning to get to Basel around 3pm. We could probably have made it straight to Basel the night before but we know from experience the last few KM can take forever - which indeed they did again..... cue next blog page

As we entered the clock area, we jostled to get the best position to see the film over on the side, but also to be at the front of the clock for the movements.
