Land of Water Museum, Enkhuizen, North Holland

Today I met with one of Gyongyi's colleagues, Hans, and his wife Irene, and they took me to Enkhuizen. We visited the Land of Water Museum which is a lovely, old village that is a great representation of a typical early 1900s fishing/farming village. It is my understanding that they actually disassembled houses, shops, etc. and reassembled them on this site to make it as authentic as it possibly could be. There are vegetable gardens ...

Amsterdam, Netherlands and the trip to Berlin

Hello again, We're in Berlin currently, pardon my typing on this computer, things are in sttrange places and the typing shows up so small on the screen I can barely read it. :) So, we toured Amsterdam after I wrote, we started at the Anne Frank house and then went by other historical buildings. I really liked the city, everything is historical and there are no real moden buildings mixed in with the old ones so ...

... jazz bar. Found it, but they weren't playing any live music as our group of 13 or 14 (quite drunk @ this point) were the only people in the joint. After some drinks, decide to go back to the hotel, absolutely convinced i knew my way there... After a whole heck of a lot of wandering, finally decide to ask the help of a friendly looking prostitute who happened to be on the corner (i swear officer!). Asked her where the hotel was, she had a pretty good idea ...

... gevulde koek in the tea garden at the bakkerijmuseum - that was fun! And the biscuit was still warm.... mmm! Then we drove back to enkhuizen, where we were having our last family meal together! Jose stopped off briefly at the side of the IJsselmeer, its very important that i get a glood glimpse of that famous lake before I leave - though i couldn't see the ships sailing in the sky this time: that is a sight well worth seeing! (When you look out over the water ...

Exploring Hoorn

Today Jose took myself and Olaf on a tour of Hoorn! We caught the train in, and first went to the Westfries Museum - in the most amazing building I have everseen! ( http://www.wfm.nl/english/info_e.htm ) They had the most random collection of items in there - a recreation of the dodo, furniture, clothing, bedding, coffee/tea/tobacco, clocks, preserved animal foetuses (?), the leathered skin of an eskimo (??), crockery, torture implements, coffins, etc etc - basically ...
