Day Trip to Versailles

A travel blog entry by herbguhl

... Peter the Great built Peterhof to try to outdo Louis and I think he may have succeeded with the Peterhof palace. The Hall of Mirrors is of course the most impressive room at Versailles, but I think the main ballroom at Peterhof is larger and even more spectacular.

But with the gardens, Versailles wins hands down. I had seen pictures, but until you’re there you don’t appreciate the scale of the Gardens of Versailles. It’s over a kilometer from ...

Time for Paris

... There are wood beams running through the whole place, there is a bathroom and separate WC. Great for those days Bryan takes forever in the bathroom and I just wanna brush my teeth. There is also a separate bedroom with a king bed. I have Bryan the bed and took the super comfy sofa bed in the living room with the great views. After putting in some laundry and having lunch from a corner creperie we went out to explore the town and visit the Eiffel Tower! We wanted ...

... outside invites anyone to climb to the top of the steeple so off my humans went and trudged up the 50m to the top where they found a caretaker in a small room who collected the small fee and also had an extensive coin and philatelic display and sales and many old photos of the town.

Another very pretty little town we visited was Bechyne. Here we visited the 15th century Monastery. The church is beautifully decorated with its prime exhibit being ...

... showed some other roman styled paintings, then we moved on the Egyptian exhibitions where we saw some interesting pieces of art there. We then moved on to the larger sculptures which was my favourite. Kids were good, we meet Richard and Pauline out the front and got our pictures taken holding the louvre. It was good, then something,I don't want to talk about much was the debarcle with the buses. We ended up walking a ridiculous amount of time because I was checking ...

Tour de France and Our Last Days in Paris

... not to challenge the Yellow Jersey. However, the final few laps of the Champs-Élysées are serious with the sprinters vying for the win. Seeing the riders on the Champs-Élysées was great although I did not realize how fast they actually go even when cruising and so did not have my camera set correctly for the photos. I did get some video and although not that clear, it does show the speeds they are traveling. Even the second video which I slowed to half pace is still too fast to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel de Hollande Paris

Excellent hotel for low budget travellers

I stayed at the Hotel de Hollande with my fiance a whole week during a holliday vacation in July of this year. The hotel was very enjoyable, clean and cheap. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable and service in the hotel was generally above average. Staff were very friendly, especially Stephene, the hotel owner, and his wife, who really went out of there way to help us out when my fiance lost his passport.

    Excellent price/quality hotel

I spent 3 nights at Hotel de Hollande while on a business trip in Paris. I was impressed with the quality of the establishment considering the relatively cheap nightly rate.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at the hotel and we were overwhelmed by the friendly and helpful staff.

The breakfast was excellent, there are different dishes served daily during our stay.

The room is spacious, clean and well renovated. We will definitely go back and strongly recommend to all.

    Great hotel in paris

i've came to paris 5 or 6 times this year, and i can tell you that this hotel is the best i've been to. The service is exelent, poeple are verry nice serving you, and for a 2 star hotel, it seems like a 3 stars.

    A good base

I stayed here with my husband and 2 children (then aged 8 and 5) for 5 nights. The hotel is inexpensive. When in Paris you do tend to be out more than in, but be advised - you do get what you pay for!

    Convenient and Good Value

We stayed at the Hotel Hollande for three days in mid June. It was very clean and the room was average for Paris - small but not tiny. We love the neighorhood - lively and central but noisy. It was very hot during our stay and there was no AC in the room which meant that we had to keep the windows open - noisy all night. The hotel also has no elevator above the 4th floor so we had to drag our heavy bags two more flights - a real pain. Otherwise, this is a good value for the money and I would choose to stay there on our next stay in Paris.

Not as bad as others here says

I stayed in this hotel with my husband and parents, on september/2005, and I can tell you is just a little hotel with the basics, yes, but nice service, very clean (and for me THIS is a very important fact)and very good placed. By night the neighborhood is ok, plenty of restaurants, cafes and so, not at all dangerous. You are just a few steps from the rue Lafayette so metro and buses are at hand, 10 minutes walking to the Opera and pretty close to the "center" of the action. True is, this hotel needs some paint and new carpets in the halls, but the rooms are ok, all with bathrooms and for the noise, not as much as for discomfort....besides, you are on vacations, you dont spend to much time in the room, the importan thing is the city!

You get what you pay for

My husband and I traveled to Paris with a friend in October, 2004 and stayed at Hotel De Hollande because it was affordable and the Web site made it seem like a nice hotel. The Web boasts a newly remodeled hotel; although the lobby is beautiful with hardwood floors and a nicely decorated dining room, no updating was done to the rest of the hotel. The rooms are dated with broken furniture and no "extra amenities".

    Very Deceiving

While studying abroad in Ireland last semester my friend and I decided to spend a few days exploring London and Paris (May 2004). London was fantastic and Paris would have been just as amazing if our Hotel de Hollande was all that it claims it is online.
