Our last town to visit was Marken. We travelled there by boat from Volendam, which was somewhat enjoyable though the day was quite miserable. Marken used to be an island in the Zuiderzee, but now was connected to the mainland by a causeway. ... in Volendam there was only time for lunch, and in Marken, on arrival we were quickly marched through and away from the pretty village to a clog making factory (ie shop tied to bus company) where there was no time to explore.
Still, nowadays we can get our revenge on TripAdvisor.com

... walking about the Damrack area, and a delightful book market.
When we picked up the van to set off in early afternoon, it promptly died again just as we backed out the driveway! Turned out it was the fuel pump.... so another 3 hour bike ride up some canals and into some beautiful park and residential area north of Amsterdam, while the fuel pump was fixed. ... we were looking at yesterday were a Friesland breed and very valuable, we were assured that the farmer would have expended every effort to rescue his horse! Later in the afternoon, I walked over to check on them and all were present and correct, some eating and some going in for the mutual grooming that horses do.

No book was delivered today, so the decision to stay was the right one. In terms of the fridge, it only used 7 amps overnight ...
