... We have to fight!" And so they did! I still have no idea who the swarm of people were or what they were doing, but Pete valiantly took on an inflatable Sumo in the Grand Place with a pillow, and won (well, I like to think so...I'm not actually sure how one determines the winner of such an interaction!)

Later on when I asked Pete how this had started, since all I heard them say was "French? English?" then "We have to fight!", he said he honestly couldn't ...

I am so full of waffles and good times.

... find it thanks to person number 4 who did know what I was saying.  And what a nice hostel it is!  I went up to my room, and given I was the only person in the room at the time, I tipped the entire contents of my bag on the floor and re-sorted it to match where I was going next and the weather for the next week.  I then went down stairs to be an annoying customer. The one that wants to swap 1&2 ...

... laid out but unfortunately no lif. On the third floor there was a very interesting collection of photos and documents showing how Brussels coped during WW1. With some difficulty but they managed to get food into the cities.
Also saw the history of the Belgian tapestries which are now longer made in Belgium

Thursday was a full day tour to Gent - on sign posts (English spelling is Ghent) and Bruges

... a number of repairs at the moment. Can't go in, it is Sunday after all, but able to venture within the pillars and its a truly impressive sight.

Right next to the Palace is a massive look-out area where a large group of tourists have all gathered to take pictures of Brussels. Also in the square are a couple of WWI and WWII statues commemorating those who fought and lost their lives for Belgium during the early 20th century. ...

... told us the name, and then about 10 minutes later, the waitress appeared with 5 spoons and a saucepan with the leftovers. They actually let us eat the leftovers like we were all at home and our mothers had just cooked up a dessert. We were also treated to a free after-dinner limoncello.

If I can't celebrate with turkey and pie and family, I will celebrate with prawns and tzatziki and an adopted Greek family. After all, it's good to take celebrations where you find them.
