The Goodbye Girl/The Road to Hong Kong

... The choice for Hong Kong, then, was easily made.

And so last December, it all started. I submitted my application (after checking and re-writing it about 1000 times), made it through the interview and results day. I sent my visa application, bought the tickets and got the necessary vaccinations. And now my suitcases are packed and I've said my good-byes. I pinch myself and realize this is not a dream - it's really happening!

Thanks to all of you who have ...

... I decided to take a direct cab. I don't want to be rushing or having to worry about the time, the long cab ride will complete my experience (:

At this moment I'm just thinking about how I see myself there and the hotel.
I really hope the Yotel Hotel is exactly what I am expecting.

I'll write you guys soon, departure from AMS to NWK is 21 days left!

Friday saw us explore Valkenburg some more, after starting the day with that very Dutch breakfast. Again, the temperature in the morning was already well into the 20s and rose to 31 before day's end. We enjoyed looking around the shops and just walking the streets, but were also keen to learn something of the district's history.

... The aeroplane crash victims were remembered. The troops didn't carry flags in honour of them, and there was no music at the finish line. There were plenty of crowds though.

The Via Gladioli was packed and, after getting my medal with a crown on top, I made my way back to Marianne and Rein's. By the time I had had my shower, Tino, Rick and GJ were there, so we made a swift exit back to see Hellen and Ivo, eat fried food and fruit salad in the garden.

Valkenburg - An Entertaining & Historical Surprise

... connected to the World Cup ("WK") celebrations. The streets were lined with spectators, and several bands of drummers took turns to play their instruments and parade through the town, stopping at various points to entertain the numerous diners and drinkers who were sitting out on the terraces. The drumming was very loud, but talk about atmosphere - it was fantastic!
