... was outrageous, sooooo many trucks and of course everything travelling very quickly. It was most tiring for John as the driver. The closer we got to Milan the worse it got, anyway, we survived. Luckily the road basically bypasses Milan and we were soon in Como.
Well a shock we got! The lake is pretty but Como is a huge suburb of Milan really. In fact most of the lake has housing surrounding it, albeit rather flash housing :-). Arrived at ...

Leaving Milano, we started the day with Bergamo which is an ancient town about 40 km east of Milan we've been hearing a lot about. I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just me setting my expectation too high.

... until the rain returned and then a quick dash back to the apartment.

Tuesday we woke early, peered outside to see low cloud, overcast skies but no rain. Found markets around the corner from us, a mixture of produce and goods. Boarded the metro to see some more and explore the canal area of Milan and St Ambosia, a church that was closed when we went Sunday. Interesting and a little gruesome too! Back to the city ...

      Italian romance

Our last couple of days in Italy were made up of the Valleys and Milan. Driving up through the Valleys on Thursday was spectacular - the photos don't come close to doing it justice. We took the old number 1 highway (the original Roman highway) which was single lane (and not Australian single lane, we're talking Fiat 500 single lane) and wound up and down next to the po river into the valleys. We stopped in at a restaurant that was in the grounds of a ...
