A very wet day in San Antonio de Areco

... and a piece of cake and contemplated how badly mistreated the lovely old building over the road had been over the years. Also, outside this cake shop we found the dog, asleep, that had followed us around town for half an hour earlier in the day. We kept telling him that he didn’t belong to us, but every time we stopped to look at something, he’d wait and then carry on with us when we continued! Perhaps we’d worn him out by here as he continued to sleep ...

Buenos Aires

... they also had various street entertainers. After walking around and then having lunch we spent a while looking at one of the street Tango shows. After that we walked a couple of blocks to park Lezama. This is reckoned to be where the town was first founded . The rich family Lezama, then built the park and an impressive mansion. The mansion then became the property of General San Martin, one of the heroes of the country. Today it is the home of one of the history museums ...

Porteños, Pizza and Peron.

... outlets, the avenues are wide, the old buildings are European and there are masses of Pizzarias and pasta outlets. After wandering around for a while we found our hostel which was great -modern, friendly and excellently located near the huge obelisco in the centre of town.

In the evening, despite some mobile phone issues, we got a phone call at the hostel from Lula - Tiagoīs Argentinian friend. A porteņa - an Italian descendent and Argentine - Lula said she ...

A weekend at the cottage, Porteño style

... hard not to compare, but for the whole journey we couldnīt get over how similar it was to our cottage country. The style of housing is different, the water is different, the language is different, but the concept is exactly the same. Thousands of Porteņos (people from BA) escape the chaos of the city for relative calm and peace of the delta. They go fishing, boating, swimming, have barbecues, and potter around fixing stuff. I swear I could ...

Freezing Temperatures, Warm Fellowship

On Friday afternoon, after a damp morning of wandering around Buenos Aires on buses and by foot, Eduardo Carbone, ECS 'Southern Cone' Regional Coordinator picked us up in a Renault Utility van with 6 seats and brought us to his home in Pilar, about an hour north of the BA center. His home is on a compound that consists of a K-12 Christian School, the assembly, Emmaus office, printing press, his house and the "mother-in-law" house where we are ...

I arrived at the Oficina Regional, Iglesia del Nazareno which is the Southamerican Regional Headquarters for the Nazarene Church, the host organization for the Childrenīs International Dental Projectīs (CIDP) mission trip. A brief trip to South America, Spring 2005

... went first to a close-by summerplace called Tigre, to spend two nights in a B & B. On summer weekends Tigre becomes alive, lots of people come up from Buenos Aires. There are many boat-clubs and rowers fill the numerous rivers and channels that this area is famous for, navigating between the bus-boats and tour ships. We took a bus-boat to a nearby place. Upon disembarking we just walked under the weeping willows soaking up the heat, along the canals ...
