Got on the high speed train on Friday morning. We're zooming south to Chengdu for an hour then will find a tourist bus for the Sichuan Bamboo Sea further south.

It's hard to take my eyes off the scenery, now terraced fields w/ many homes of all sizes scattered in between rivers and industry. This is an electric unit, makes a great humming noise as we approach 200Km/hr. I'm a railroad nut, this is sort of like being in heaven. As we approach ...

This morning Xiao Chen and I are heading south to a region called the Bamboo Sea. Should be good for hiking. We'll be traveling by train and bus most of the day.

... be pragmatic. Their place still exudes calm and beauty.

You can walk up into the mountains or down into the old walled city as Cathy and I did during our week last year. My visit was shorter this year, but maybe more memorable because I didn't feel compelled to explore. I was so impressed with the way the young parents tried to anticipate their baby's needs.

The baby was training them as well. Fascinating for me, who was only a part-time parent ...

... fireproof, damproof and sound proof and are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They are all wood inside. We had a local dinner cooked up for us and were told we would be staying in a round earth building the next day (which was exciting and why we had trekked out there!). 20th October We were lucky in that we had picked a village which had it all going in in Earth Building speak so we spent the entire day ...
