We are on the back stretch and reaching for home. Two more blog entries to go. We hit the road this morning at 7:15 and 81 degrees with clear skies and headed for Baton Rouge, the capitol of Louisiana...but you knew that, of course. The drive took us through bayou country with roads raised over the water that go on for miles without relief. Fishermen were in boats below us and who knows who else…maybe my favorite Ax Man, Shelby, looking for sunken ...
Tallahassee is not just the capitol of Florida, more importantly it is the home of Marcus's alma mater, Florida State University (FSU). Go Seminoles! While this may not seem important to some, it is important to me because if you know Marcus, you know he tells wonderful stories…and some of my favorites are from the Sigma Nu fraternity house at FSU. Turned out to be a good move, though the tops were somewhere around 10k' MSL, with a few build ups to 11.5k'. No problem navigating around them. It added 15 minutes to our time en route, but the ride was smooth and sights were beautiful ...
Off to Tallahassee, Florida today. It should be a 6 hour drive today. Drove into the state of Alabama at 9:15 a.m. We saw the USS Alabama Battleship "The Hero of the Pacific." It rests at the Battleship Park on Mobile, Bay. I have a pic of it from the moving truck for your viewing enjoyment. I saw a truck blow it tire while it was passing us. Sounds like a shot gun with lots of smoke. Cool for me but not too cool for the driver I would think. 10:30 a.m. we entered ...
