... on the curbs of rich neighborhoods. Others guard apartment buildings, private schools, bus stations, car dealerships, restaurants, and nearly everything else. The weapon of choice for many of these guards is a 4-foot-long shotgun, and for them the night-stick seems to be just an aesthetic accessory. I guess this is what happens when the police can't be relied upon.

... elbow, and they wondered why I didn’t go go karting yesterday. I digress, Nikki tour leader was nearly arrested at the falls entrance for refusing a guide (apparently it’s the law, a **** I gave not, guide, smuide). We then went into a bird park where we got up close and personal with some toucan’s who got thick if you spent too much time photographing them and exacted their revenge via the medium of their big clacky beaks and your extremities. Then ...
Asuncion, Paraguay ramblingroisinHi all, Its been a long time since I've updated by blog. I really haven't used the Internet too much lately, but this weekend I am in Asuncion doing lots of errands and hanging out. Everyone from my training group came in as well this weekend to hang out. My site is going well. I actually feel really busy already working with the water commission and the women's commission. I'm also trying to get started in the schools. I was supposed to start on ...
Asuncion, Paraguay terredeshommes... Before seeing them I did not thing it was possible to stick out more than I do, but I guess I was wrong. There are quite a few Mennonite communities in Paraguay, especially in the Chaco, and they have been really successful. Most of them still speak German or English. This weekend will be full of activities again. Already this morning lots of men came out to our place to continue working on the soccer field for the local club. We all went out ...
Guarambare, Paraguay chriswooley... I decided to use the money to instead work on my spanish, which is becoming worse by the second as I work and live with people who speak english. (Allthough only 8 of 24 people working in the office are native english speakers, the rest of the group are fluent as well, so they even speak in english to each other sometimes...) Hope everyone is well and slowly thawing out from the crazy winter you have had! It's still hot here.
Asuncion, Paraguay carrrrinFrom Uni we headed back to La Paz - again - and flew out via Santa Cruz to Paraguay. Our immediate reaction when we reached Asuncion was surprise at how fast people were walking and talking after 3 months in the Andes. We took a hot and sweaty bus to Foz de Iguazu in Brazil.
Asuncion, Paraguay allgoingsouth... in Argentina, so that helps. Still I've got four countries to see in six weeks, so maybe I should head on up to Paraguay where temps will soon be scorching souls and soles. By the time I get back B.A. will only be warmer as summer approaches (they give the running countdown on TV). Paraguay is the trip's main wild card also, a place where the unexpected might happen. On paper of course it's the nowhere country, nowhere nothing never no how, the only ...
In diesem Sinne: Un abrazo y hasta pronto!
Asuncion, Paraguay nicostoetter... fell due to the 50lb backpack on my back. I packed WAY too much. Anyway, I made it back. So after 2 days back I've officially made the decision to apply for the Peace Corps Volunteer Coordinator position. If I receive it, I will be in PY for another 13 months, but working in the office and living in Asuncion. I would get a month paid home leave, and PC pays for the ticket! (as well as my other 3 ...
