    ... there was a strange white stripe across the horizon. Was it a cloud or what?? There were mountains behind the white stripe. The countryside was fantastic. More pictures. The temperature was rising as I descended into the valley and that white stripe was the horizon. And there it was, the answer. White Sands National Monument and White Sands missile range. Ziggy loved it. We are pointed west and it's 30 miles to the missile range and the mountains ahead.

Monday morning we arrived in Tucson ahead of schedule, and had plenty of time to have a leisurely breakfast at a really nice cafe called Maynard's market and kitchen, attached to the amtrak station (clearly the space was historically part of the amtrak station back when it was served by more than 6 trains total each week) while waiting for enterprise to pick us up and assign us our rental car for the week (wow that was quite a run on sentence, huh). ...

    ... We stopped at Pilot for fuel - $121.78 at $3.799/gal. After driving 330 miles, we finally reached Gila Bend. We stayed at Augie's Quail Trail RV Park for $28.00/night.
