... but are no longer used for various reasons. Today, I took one of the spurs which ended at the Chain of Rocks Bridges. It's now a mile long hiking and biking trail. Just outside this area is a well-known but seedy restaurant that was once a speakeasy and brothel and it retains much of this former ambiance. Hard to believe but I was the least seedy person there .Always good to go for a beer where danger is involved.

Rolla to Broken Arrow (Tulsa) - 345 miles Our day started with a visit to the Totem Pole Trading Post, literally next door to our motel. This is the only business in Rolla still trading since the 1930s. As the route had been realigned several times over the decades, the shop had been moved too. The old boy running the shop gave us a photographic tour of the shop through years. Today would be a long day but with an amazing variety of roads to negotiate. ...

... while packing the bike the dumpster truck came & the smell of faeces wafted across the lot. That explains the burgeoning population of houseflies.
Anyway once on the road I could enjoy the rolling countryside with trees & fields.
I-44 is a toll road (2 tolls + $8 between OKC & Missouri border).
Had a nice chat with the older gent at the tourist center across the MO border & settled on Rolla & this hotel with the help of the hotel coupon book. ...
Long day...
... and long driving of almost 700 miles. We finally landed after a fairly long driving over the Missouri hills. Tonight's dinner will be junky with cold beers. The Cordon Bleu meal will be next Sunday at Beagle's Palace with our loved ones. Sharing the drive makes a big difference: we are working on developing a least critical attitude with eachother's drivings, with some success... As long the days start and end with hugs, we're OK.
