Return, Day 5: Ontario to Sault Ste Marie, MI
... I took Indy and followed the Coastal Alvar Trail until it met the Misery Bay trail. The trail was almost completely flat stone (instead of dirt), and the trees gave way to barren clearings every so often, again marked by large expanses of stone. At the water's edge of Lake Huron, I wandered around the beach flats for a bit. The sand was alternately perfect beach sand and very sticky mud that gave way easily underfoot. Since the ship was so long it was in the 2nd lock About the same time a tour boat came into the lock closest to us so we were able to see the water rise in the closest one and the ship sink descend. It was done so slowly you don't realize how much they have to lower it until the ship is even with the walkway and still going lower.

... and saw The Big Nickel! That was basically the sightseeing highlight of the day. Hoping to get some pretty views tomorrow. I should have a bit more time to look around tomorrow anyway as it's a slightly shorter driving day.
