... sides. Of course, homes by the river are highly prized.

The P’s are not lucky enough to live at the river, but their home is on a quiet dead-end street and it is also very nice. They have a small garage which makes parking easier. Catherine says that this Sunday she and Julia will take things to an annual flea market in the town. They will sell things that they are staging now in the garage and buy more things to replace them. She and ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States 3beansabroadSo i didn't really plan to go to Richmond, but was forced to spend two hours th**e when my Greyhound bus was late coming in from Washington DC and I missed my connection by 5 minutes.

I put my bag in the line-up for the gate, so as to get myself a good window seat when the bus finally arrived, and sat down to do some reading. I had already been th**e for a good hour or so when a lady came and sat a couple of seats away from me. I ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States angelaincanadaTravel pointers:

Except for telAviv and Jerusalem….have a car. I can't tell you how many travelers we met that envied us with having a car. Especially in Galilee this gives you tremendous freedom and flexibility.

In a restaurant always ask for the check when you are ready.

10% is a standard tip, but be nice, play the friendly tourist and tip 15% for good service.

Respect customs ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States leafmoldWell we started off right, but we hit lots of traffic on Rt. 95 heading into Mt.Vernon and Richmond. Made a historic pit stop at Mt. Vernon. Pretty impressive place. I almost embarrassed Kristi and had us kicked out for rubbing my face on General Washington's pillow. They take that stuff very seriously nowadays.

Then off to Richmond where we met Ryan and Kelly. First night...hotel...not bad.
We hit ...
Richmond/ Mt. Vernon, Virginia, United States matuszSunday July 26, 2009

Luba and I slept in until about 830am. Bevil and Stewart were, of course, up, dressed and waiting for us. Bevil and Stewart took us to O'Doul’s for breakfast and then afterwards took us to visit the family plot at the Hollywood Cemetery. It was great to see that Luba was actually interested to see where my father and family were buried. After a short ride through Richmond we headed back to the ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States hawgbound... drivers who would not give an inch to allow us to merge into the many interstates around town. Drving through West Virginia was a nightmare with the curvey mountain roads that we had to pay to ride on. They sure do need Obama's stimulus money! Charleston was very dirty; we couldn't leave fast enough.

We are home now ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States lstoneham... my image of all historical figures talking like pirates might be misguided, but my elementary school textbooks can't compete with Johnny Depp and his roguish charisma.

It was a fun couple of weeks though, and I need time like that with my mom to supplement our primary communication of Skype calls from 10,000 miles away. From there, it was off to NYC to see the city sans my previous fog of jet-lag and incessant vomiting. Sans. Who talks like that?
Richmond, Virginia, United States dane... ended up being just like Maggie Moo's. Sophie and Lance played on the indoor playground at Chik-Fil-A for awhile and then it was time to hit the road again. It was a pretty quiet ride althoug it was long. We really didn't hit any traffic, even around Washington DC. We finally got into Chester, just south of Richmond, a few minutes ago. The hotel is really nice - very clean and the staff is friendly. The kids are wide awake and ready to party but I am exhausted!
Richmond, Virginia, United States solasmommy... Dallas and Fr. Leo opted for the fish and chips while I chose the grilled tuna over lettuce salad. Fr. Leo graciously picked up the check. Following dinner, the three of us took a walk along the Canal Walk; very nice. We then drove around Richmond to see some more of the historic sites. Eventually, we dropped Fr. Leo off back at his downtown hotel and returned to our hotel around 9:30 p.m.
