... around St Joseph township and taking the smaller roads home. Bought some Halloween pumpkins for Madge's front steps from Sid's Pumpkin patch. We also stopped at Niles to see an old station which has been used in a number of films including Only the Lonely, Continental Divide and Midnight Run.
Went to dinner at Madge's favourite Chinese restaurant, Mandarin House, where we had a lovely meal of beef Chow Mien, Moo Chu Pork and Szchezwan Chicken with peanuts.
... At 10.00 still foggy as we took Route 20 towards Amish country in Middlebury and Shipshewana. We visited Das Dutchman Essenhaus which is a huge complex where they can feed 1,100 people at once. It is very commercialised and felt like a tourist attraction. There were young Amish ladies working at the bakery and Amish families obviously went there because we saw their horses and buggies at the complex.

... it but looked quite lovely with the autumn leaves on the canyon floor. Walked to the Lodge and Hotel which is a big place. It looks to be a similar set up to O'Reilly's at the Lamington Plateau but on a much bigger scale. Walked back along part of the St Louis Canyon walk which was so poorly maintained and marked that others before us had bush bashed their way through the long grass and over boggy areas. Since it was Sunday we planned to attend church, then see another of Ted's projects and hit the road. We planned it out on the train ride home and had a few choices 9:00am, 10:30am and 1:30pm. Ted had not attached the new hitch riser to Sparky and it turned out to be more involved than he thought. He got straight to work on it in the morning planning to hit the 10:30 church time.
